If one of my thread was to be merged with a bigger thread for any reason, will I still get the notification of people posting a reply? I know I would get one if someone quoted my post regardless of whose thread I posted it on.

Actually, I don't think so.
This is because the thread starter has been changed, from yourself to that of another member, the user who created the other topic. However, to reaffirm my suspicions, we can always perform an experiment. Feel free to let me know.
On another unrelated note, I prefer to merge similar, if not identical, topics based on the "first-come, first-serve" policy, not on how big the topic is. ^_^;;

Oh, so no matter how big the second topic is, if there is a similar, if not identical, first thread, you will merge the second onto the first one.
