Sort manga based on genre?

Is there a way to sort manga by it's genre?
I noticed that there is a way to sort by series, but can you sort by genre? (yaoi, yuri, paradoy, etc)
When users upload manga is there a place to select which genre it is?
I would really like to see some of the manga on here, but I don't want to go through several just to find one that I'm actually interested in.

I would be for adding tags to show what they contain if someone was willing to do the work of looking through all the doujins. Then if you want to see all the doujins that contain incest you'd click the incest tag.
If you mean categorize them like we do artists and series then I don't think that'll work out. What if it has incest-yuri-rape? How would you categorize those with so many combinations without wasting a fuuuuuuuck of a lot of time trying to account for every kind of combo.

I'm sure that many of the userbase here would be more than glad to assist (I know I would)
The process is simple; Assign a certain number of mangas(total doujins hosted on FAKKU divided by the total number of volunters) to each volunter and have them add the tags to each individual manga. It's likely to be a very long and tedious job, as all the volunters would have to read each individual manga. But I'm sure that if you can get enough people doing it, it shouldn't be too hard, right?
Of course doing it that way would require use of the Search Bar, and not the 'Sort' tab. I think it would probably be easier using the Search Bar method so as to avoid a very long list that most would think takes too long to sort thru
Of course, the idea's I've got are subject to mass customization, but the principal would remain the same.

Don't sort by something like this. Just add tags to them so when you are browsing the list of series or looking at the chapter page, you'll see tags like 'yuri' and 'straight sex.'
It'd definitely be a welcome feature and if you let people help you tag, it'd be easy for the staff.

Tags would be helpful in searching for specific genres, and the way it would get done is to let the userbase edit the tags themselves for yuri, incest, etc.
Even though there is a large amount of manga here on Fakku already, most of it would be tagged by the userbase (at least anything that was good would be) and it would help find what you like, and avoid what you don't like.
I'm for this idea, just gotta see what Jacob's opinion on it is.

I'd like to mention that if we started a tag system, we wouldn't have to have everything tagged overnight. Even if it was a very slow process (like, if only the latest uploads were tagged), it'd be a start, and in a year, that'd be quite an achievement. And as long as there was an "untagged" tag, people could click that and see everything that hasn't been tagged, in case they want to do some work.
Of course, it would be best if users could edit tags, so it wouldn't all be on the mods and admins, but I think it would be unwise to let every single user have that kind of power. Perhaps only allowing people who have been here so long or have a certain number of posts to edit tags would be the best option, to avoid tampering with the system. If open to every user, any bored idiot could get his jollies by inappropriately labeling doujins.
Also, with a project like this, it's best to think small at first. Maybe start with just a few tags, like straight, yuri, and incest. It'll be enough work just to add those three tags to the many doujins here. If the work goes smoothly, then more tags could be added. The idea behind this is to not set up an insurmountable task that looks so hard that no one wants to do it.

I think this would be a really great idea. I have a lot of trouble looking for the types of hentai im interested. I would definitely be willing to help out with the tagging if tagging was an option.

Eventually I will add tags, it would be helpful if everyone came up with 10-15 most common tags to get started with.

tags I'd imagine to find common use over time: "het", "yuri", "yaoi", "loli", "rape", "happy", "color", "monochrome", "incest", "maids", "english", "japanese".
also normal, shota, full color.

I suggest we break the tagging into four sections (we already have some)
Language: English, Japanese, so on
Style: Full Color, Monochrome
Genres: Straight, Yuri, Yaoi
Themes: Futanari, Tentacle, Loli, Shota, Rape, so on
and as such allow complex searching like
Search--
Language: Any
Style: Any
Genre: Straight Only
Themes: Any EXCEPT Tentacle
Would result in it searching all languages, any style of art, ONLY male on female, and all themes EXCEPT for tentacles.
So it'd be very detailed with finding what you want, and keeping what you don't away from you.

I elided my post because I thought I'd present a more elaborate list, but oh well.
Tranquility, wouldn't it be easier to just have flat-hierarchy (uncategorized) tags? Would keep it simple, if you ask me.
These could then be accessed via a tag search. How you present this search to the user is a matter of choice; for quick one-tag searches a tag cloud may well serve the purpose.
For multi-tag searches I'd personally prefer a proper tag search with logical operators over categorized tags, i.e.
-futa +color returns everything NOT involving dickgirls, in color, across all genres.
+happy +het returns exclusively heterosexual happy-sex material
Although I don't know how badly that'd hit performance wise for long chains. Perhaps there ought to be an exact match operator (#tag), too, to preemptively cut down on the +het + happy -loli -shota -tentacle -maids -schoolgirls -futa -icecreamcarts -supermario -stevejobsinleatherpants searches.
orz.

You will need to decide early on whether or not you will have a wide-ranging tagging system such as the danbooru/gelbooru use OR much fewer tags just for major distinct peopletype/clothing/items/actions/situations/locations/quantity/misc. Useful tags could be: celebrity(peopletype), elf(peopletype), darkskin(peopletype), tanned(peopletype), S&M(action), rape(action), femdom(situation), latex(item), sextoys(item), stockings(clothing), spats(item), ribbons(clothing), mecha(item), bukkake(action), fellatio(action), prisoner(situation), helpless(situation), vore(action), fighting(action), underwater(location), space(location), underground(location), outdoors(location), group(quantity), spitroast(quantity), goo(misc), monster(misc), tentacle(misc), dragon(misc), dog(misc), futanari, hermaphrodite, crossdress, trap, bishonen, yaoi, yuri, transformation, corruption, small breasts, big breasts, huge breasts, enormous breasts, superdeformed, rough drawings.
You need to provide definitions for some of the tags because fandom has a wide-ranging definition for certain words. For example, the tag futanari originally referred to a female with a penis. Believe it or not, there are people who have stated that females are not required to have a vagina, thus "a female with penis and testicles but no vagina qualifies to be a futanari". A person with both vagina and a penis with testicles is a hermaphrodite which was why futanari was used to differentiate from that. Mangled definitions were applied by various subgroups at 4chan's /d/ forum, which resulted in controversy. In the end, the yaoi fans dominated with their definition of futanari as being EITHER a transvestite male with breasts OR a female with penis and testicles with the vagina not required to be visible. I suspect the same mangled definitions will occur here with people labeling doujinshi as having futanari if Hideyoshi was present. After all, on 4chan's /d/, a female doesn't need to have a vagina because a transvestite (or person with gender dysphoria) is regarded as female already. Unfortunately, those real-life viewpoints have been dogmatically used in warping the original definitions of a number of "tags/labels" used in /d/. If you don't have firm definitions here, those tags will also be mis-used here as well because some people have dogmatic viewpoints as to what a female is and so you will end up with Hideyoshi categorized as a futanari or one of the effeminate John Peta males labeled as dickgirl.... After months pass, you will have such a morass that it will be hard to fix.

Well, that's why you have to define terms such as futanari or else people will abuse the term because they want futanari to include testicles (and/or not have vagina) to better support their personal life choices. The debates had raged in 4chan off and on in the past 2 years. I can see already I have been given -1 reputation most likely for wanting labels like futanari firmly defined so that they would not be abused.
*update* Well, it looks like another -1 reputation from someone who wants to continue misposting their yaoi material as "futanari". The reputation system here seems more about politics than about clarity or quality of thought.
