What does Forum Reputation do exactly?

im wondering if there is anything significant about the comment / forum reputation system here.
For instance, could you be banned if the number reaches -100 because the people have basically voted that you have been leaving poor and offensive comments?
Are negitivley voted comments hidden unless the person desires to un-hide the comment? (If so I haven't seen that yet, which is a good thing. I like this community of adults.)
Is there a benefit to having a good reputation? (Like badges or something)

It does literally nothing. That's why when people get butthurt about it, it's really kinda sad. It's just a way to say "hey I like/agree with your post" or "wow you're stupid/annoying".

- The only thing Rep really does is help to gauge the general quality of a user's posts. But it's entirely bias, so it's not always accurate.
- You don't get penalised for having a gigantic negrep total or rewarded for having a large plusrep total. It's just there.
- The only place where your comments get hidden for having so many Downvotes are Manga comments. But they don't get removed, you can still view them.

So instead of help, I got a negative reputation. ;__; Hah ha. Well, I'm not known for my skill at starting conversations, irl or online, so I guess it was a matter of time.
