The anime fansubbing group that Sindalf of the translation team helps out with would like some help.
Due to various circumstances, the capper who has been providing quality raws for the past few months to multiple quality groups such as Taka, Tomodachi and a few others, has to go back home and as such all these quality fansub groups are going to be without decent raws, that means your favorite shows that you like to see in such awesome quality are going to be delayed or even possibly dropped in some cases. So we are hoping that someone who lives in the Tokyo Metropolitan area and has HD Reception of TV Tokyo and Various other channels such as MBS or TBS. An experienced capper with equipment already would be preferred, however our current capper has very generously offered to give his capping equipment to another suitable person. Since he will not have any use for it, so if you think you can help us with this in anyway please contact ImperialXT or send a message through the takafansubs contact form or contact Sindalf (PM is ok aswell) at the Fakku (See the top of the page) or Tomodachi @ irc.rizon.net for more information on this. Setup of the equipment is very easy you turn on the machine and let it run on its own its that simple.

As the post says we need someone who lives in the Tokyo area with good HD reception. The job is very simple and just requires leaving a machine on with occasional rebooting. Without a capper there can be no more real HD anime. Will be nothing more than horrible looking picture and end to capping is the end of fast subbed anime. Wait longer with less quality. That is the bind we are currently in as well as many other groups. Near no japanese skill is required for this. Our current capper lives in japan but does not speak Japanese.

So what does a cap'er really need? They must use a nice antenna then some computer with a HD tuner? I was thinking about becoming a cap'er when I move to japan in the far future, so I guess while I am curious now any information I learn will just be outdated.

It records the raw data of the TV broadcast and then uploads it somewhere on the internet. Pretty much all I know myself.

i wish i could help.right now i live in koiwa near tokyo but i don't have tv yet and when i want to wach certain anime like zan zetsubou sensei i just watch it in my roomates tv.but because koiwa still using analog channel it's kinda hard to wach the digital ones.sorry.

Just build a better antenna like say this one: http://www.digitalhome.ca/ota/superantenna/ mind you the jpanaese tv system might need an antenna tuned to a different range. There should be plenty of information regarding that on the japanese net. Oh and from the sounds of it that has got to be a computer since no stand alone modern AV equipment is going to go for anything else than a couple grand. Man I wish I could do that, sounds right up my ally.
@LastLuck: There are many ways that anime gets to the fansubers, one of them is if the group has a capper. Otherwise a group would turn to the japanese P2P programs like whinny, Share or PerfectDark. With online stream become more common that is now an avenue. Oh and there are also DVD rips.

There are many many ways to cap raws. Just some create bad raws that are just not very good.
