Well, this is a site full of males, maybe some of you know about cars.
I'm looking to buy this car:
http://www.fishelchryslerjeep.net/used-inventory/vehicle-details.htm?vehicleId=a90a9eb87f0000010015dd617217c780#
However, Kelly Blue Book says it's only worth:
$2,400
I was thinking of going there, checking it out, test driving it - and if I like it just say something like look, the car is worth 2400, and if you sell it to me for 2000, I can give it to you in cash'
Do you think that'll work? Or is that too big of a drop from the sticker price? Does the fact it being cash seem more appealing to them?

Cash talks and bullshit walks. That's something my grandfather told me a long time ago. Cash will definitely help in bringing down the cost of the car. As for the five thousand they want for it, I wouldn't pay that. A eight year old car that never was all that good when new to be honest, with over a hundred thousand miles on it is not worth that amount of money. If it has had major repairs that is also something to be weary of. The tires, engine wear, air conditioner, and general parts need to be in good shape. Preferably the tires have been replaced since the car was bought and some components of the engine have been replaced. Time is not kind to a lot of car parts. I'm no expert tho, I just wouldn't pay five grand for it.

my au pair had that car! i think it was the same year as well.. I dont remember, it was quite a while ago.
but i do know that she had serious issues with it. not the engine, but with stuff falling off really easily or breaking, like the locks, the window buttons and the thing in the shifter that puts your car in reverse (im clearly hopeless with mechanics), as well as an axle going out waaay too soon and many brake replacements. she called it a money pit.

Judging from what people are saying you're probably better off looking for a different car. When you find a car it's best to check Consumer Reports to see what other people have said about that particular model. That way you'll know if you're buying a lemon or not.

I actually went to test drive it today. It was absolutely gorgeous. Everything looked brand spanking new, and when I was driving it I felt like I hardly had to control the steering wheel. I never felt one so light before. It was very smooth, very quiet, and very nice.
Only thing is today my friend at school let me know that I was doing KBB.com wrong. It's not worth $2400. That's how much I could sell it for if I would trade it in apparently.
Retail it's over $5,000 - and they have it marked a bit below that. She said they do that on purpose to make it look like you're getting a deal, but if you look at the private seller rate it's $3,600. The car is easily worth $4,000.
They want to sell it for 4,900, but would give it to me for 4,500. If I really want to get it I'd want it for a flat 4,000. But I dunno if they'll fly for that. I'd have cash for it, I dunno if that makes a difference. Uggh.

Well if you really want it then it's time to bring in someone who knows what they're doing and deal. This is where it's really important as they can bring the price down quite a bit since dealers tend to tack unneeded stuff on to jack up the price.

well if they back it up with a 5 year warranty and its one of those certified used cars it might be worth the price. Still though that is definitely pricey. just pick up your local wheels and deals magazine for free and start looking up used cars from people.
Honestly if you are looking for something on the cheap get something with no power anything, learn to drive stick, and throw your pride out the window.

Nah I didn't get it. He wouldn't drop as low as I wanted so I told him he could give that car to the other person who wanted to buy it.
I'm kinda hoping there isn't another buyer. Because I didn't really believe there was, that he was just trying to pressure me into buying out of pressure or something.
