No, you don't need a certain program, you just need your brain and a couple of years studying Japanese, ask Raze for tips, he actually get the hang of it for only a year. Myself, it took me two years to learn the basics.
BUT there is a program to translate Japanese to English, its called Atlas, but it can only translate written text, not drawn text, and it translates roughly not understanding the context of the speech.

the problem with using atlas, after it translates some text, it is then up to the user to try to interpret what it has translated since half the time the sentences it constructs make no sense at all

I can't find me news post reply, but simply, no. Go learn Japanese.
Firstly these are PICTURES not TEXT. Text could be thrown into a translation program, and OCR is unreliable.
Secondly say you did get text from the pictures. An automated translation tool would get most of it wrong most of the time, leaving you with nothing but crap.
So now you see, our job here isn't easy.

No. There are a few reasons behind this. Let me elaborate.Firstly these are PICTURES not TEXT. Text could be thrown into a translation program, and OCR is unreliable.

Yeah, I think it might be better to actually learn Japanese, become completely fluent (not scary good, but good enough to live in Japan for a long while), and then start seeing if you can be bothered translating doujins.
On that note, thanks to everyone who works here to make Fakku a better place. Without you guys, fapping would be much harder (no, not a pun...or is it? Srsly, tell me).

yeah i have been learning japanese by myself for the most part. I just can't find time to study all the time with my job and everything. Learning to the words spelled out in english isn't hard at all. Learning the kanji now that's different ball game. What i wanna know too is, even if learn all of the japanese language and the kanji. how do i change the doujin? do i just simply take the picture and white out the kanji and replace with letters? I mean if its that easy, why not translate it into something you wanted to say instead of what it really says? Correct me if im wrong.

Correct me if im wrong.Do you have any idea at what you are suggesting?! That's like saying take a book written in Spanish and writing a different one and saying it's the same! It's not! You're saying that we should take something with a storyline, something written to fit with the pictures, and write something completely random!
If you took an anime, yeah? And you wrote lies underneath it and distributed it as a real translation, that would be deceit! Lies! What you are suggesting is appalling! I didn't think that FAKKU had users that could possibly think that this standard is passable! I'm not sorry I'm being so harsh. You need to learn that we put long hours in [well, I used to and I'm unhappy that I don't find the time right now due to work being busy for me] so that you can read the real thing! Not some bullshit I pulled out of my ass last week! Why else do you think it takes so long!
Take note, FAKKU. I disagree with this user strongly on this matter, but I didn't de-rep him. Remember, kids, that's not what it's for!

im not saying ill do that, im just saying in general. I mean ive notice errors in translation on anime all the time. One guy actually mistranslated a complete series of trigun. Worst torrent download ever. So there be two verisions of doujin big deal one for fun, and one thats legit and real. No harm in that right?

No harm in that right? If you write that it's just a fake, no one will ever read it. It's not what is written, you're just stealing someone else's work and making it your own. In our case, we're taking their work and making it available to people who don't speak that language.
What you're talking about is a re-write. And those are passed over, most people either laugh at them or don't bother. If it is made for a joke, then sure, whatever. That's all fun and games. But if you try and pass it off as real, someone will notice.
Besides, errors in translation are interpretation and understanding dependent. You may have been in the wrong for all you know, or it may have been a speed sub [sloppy work to get the general point across just for speed]
Remember people. Hentai is serious business.olololololololol

I don't think I've ever facepalmed so hard in my life.
But guys, you know what else a rewrite does? It basically dooms the manga/doujin, because potential translators will simply lol at the rewrite and find something else to do.
This thread greatly amuses me.

it would be amusing to read re-writes or have battles over which storyline is better just for kicks!
