It's freaking me out too, but it's typical of the media to pick a current topic and blow it out of proportion e.g making it a front page news story every time a plane falls (which isn't often)

Last time i flew outside of the US i was in an army cargo plane. Worry more about car crashes and people robbing you then plane crash. That happens 1 time every few years... just 2014 is a bad year.

And airplane's risk is calculated. The chances of you having a collision while in the air is very low. Many of the airplane accidents happened during landing or take off, because most of the time that's where the co-pilot turns off the auto pilot. Even so, the chances of you being killed in an airplane accident is still lower than being stepped on by a cow.

I've been on hundreds of planes and flew enough to cover the 24 hour span. I know what high sky atmosphere of earth looks like in 24 hour span xD

Statistically and realistically you're more likely to die in an car accident because of people doing etc etc.

There has been several times where people tried to murder me in traffic but not even once while flying.

There's been a new one, Air Algeria, that 'disappeared' above Mali just today.

Seriously though, I've also been taking planes for a long time, and once it got very bad in a storm. I don't knowm I think it's just really really shitty luck in the span of a really really short time, so it's even more shocking.

Also, boats aren't THAT safe, look at what happened to the Costa Concordia...
