Is Project H digital manga DRM infested?
0
I was wondering if anyone bought from EManga before. Project H claims their manga is DMR free, but I found this snippet:
"We strive to be the best in the business. We developed our eBook files to include a little monster in all our files. It's like a digital stamp that helps us track if the files are being distributed in an unauthorized manner."
Sounds like watermarking DRM. Sounds like more Project H bullshit. This is so not a way to combat piracy...
Anyone know if I am wrong? I really hope I am, cuz I want that Yamatogawa in my collection and the digital version is only available through them...

My main computer is completely disconnected atm, so I can't check my files. I know the cross promo copies of their books only allow you to download one file format and no other formats afterwards. No idea if it's the same buying direct from them. I've only picked cbz files, and I haven't actually explored the zip files yet.

I picked up one of their digital downloads. No watermark as far as I can tell. I have the pdf version and it's just a pdf. No problems with it whatsoever.

I only have one digital file by them and I picked pdf. According to Project H there is supposed to be a watermark somewhere, but I haven't seen it yet. However, I stopped reading after about 15 or 20 pages because of the horrible quality.

I messaged their support about these things like 2 days ago and they have yet to respond to me... Terrible customer service. This is the reason they are struggling while FAKKU is doing so well. Treat your customers like pirates and show you dont care about them, they will stop buying and go elsewhere.

I'm not sure why they would only allow you to get one and not the other.

I can't speak for the site content itself but I've seen digital watermarks before. The watermark is a digital fingerprint in the file to tell who the owner of it is, not a literal watermark that would obscure the content.
As DRM it shouldn't lock the files down in any way but rather gives them a way of indicating who may have distributed the files if they are found on other sites, torrents, etc.

The resolution of the file is terrible. I have often seen scanlations of other works that have higher resolution images. Fakku makes sure to keep their products at the top of quality, so Project H's digital release is much worse in quality.
I agree, it seems that Fakku is doing better than Project H, but I don't think it is just the way they treat their customers. Project H seems to struggle to put out a new book each month even though they have been doing this for years. Also, they don't release the content customers want or they don't release them the way the customers want (uncensored every time, not all titles get released physically). These are other reasons they seem to be struggling. Fakku took some time to get to the point they are at now, but they also started from nothing. Project H has been at this for years (and had no competition when they started), and they are an imprint of a larger company that publishes other genres of manga.
Personally, I'm going to keep buying Project H titles that interest me, though it will be physical only. The way I see it, their products are not as high quality as Fakku's and they aren't always uncensored, but here isn't any other way to legally get the content.

I bought some Yamatogawa books, digital. They were around FAKKU! x2400 resolution, which was better than the scanlations, but not by much. Over all, not terrible, but not good when compared to my fakku books. They only let you download one format for some reason and dont split into separate images. Thats a really weird business practice. In short, I am not buying anything else off of them, but I dont regret the books I bought, cuz Yamatogawa kicks so much ass.

I'm glad to hear that the image quality for your files wasn't horrible.
I agree with you that Yamatogawa is amazing. I can't wait for my special edition copies of Vanilla Essence and Aqua Bless to ship.

Opened vanilla essence. CBZ has a xml file with my info. Didn't scan all the image files for metadata yet.
