Need help converting a video - hard time with subtitles
0
I'm trying to convert a video from "mkv" to "avi" so that it can be watched on an XBOX 360. So far I've tried converting it with "Any video converter" and "Handbrake" and both have given me a video without any subs at all.
The video I'm trying to convert is this one : Ikkitousen 01 - I actually want to convert all 12 episodes but I need to know just the way to do it.
So what I'm asking for is for a way to preserve the subs after conversing the video and they need to be hard-subbed/burned in. It doesn't matter what software is needed to do it as long as it gets the job done.
Can someone convert a part of it(1 min of the video) to "avi" and and upload some screencaps to show me how it turned out? Or if this is too much trouble just showing me the way to do it is fine.
PS: I've already converted around 130 other videos but this is the only one that is being a bitch(probably because it's an old release).

As usual you can derail but hopefully someone will know the answer.

I'm pretty sure you can just watch Ikkitousen on there.
I don't remember if they were selling it at one point or if netflix had it...
But I have it on my 360
EDIT: Also, ask Sindalf

They need to be burn in. Use handbrake.. mp4 works with everything.
just load it up and there a subtitle tab/ drop down menu/ check saa/ass english subs/ check both the default and burn in/ add then recode away.

I know you can watch it there but I don't need it for myself. I'm doing it for someone else who doesn't have an internet connection. [size=8]LOL if i wanted it for myself I wouldn't need to convert it since I would watch it on my PC and I don't have an XBOX 360.

I knew exactly that Sindalf is the guy to ask for such things since he is in charge of encoding Fakku's hentai releases, but I thought that maybe he'd see this topic but I'm probably gonna PM him tomorrow(it's too late now - I'm gonna sleep in a couple of minutes)

Mkv? Sometimes the coder makes the mkv with the order of
0subs
1video
ectect when it should be
0 video
1 audio
2 subs
3 chapters ect ect. Make need to use mediacoder or what use is pspvc but with the original dimensions and sub control. Maybe the ginger elf has some encoder bat or program better and easier then my method.

At least use mp4 if you are going to bastardize a video. Supports the fantastic fun that is h264 and aac compared to lolxvid and lolmp3.
Last I checked we rarely encode at all since I don't have a DVD provider stationed in Japan. If it was me encoding it wouldn't look like absolute shit half the time. My answer to this would be to do it all manually using avisynth and x264 command line. Most users do not want to put in the effort or learn anything about video encoding. At the same time you have to comply with xbox standards which I think are the Level 4.1 standards which I just do not approve of.

Well i actually have NO IDEA how command lines work for video encodes and the problem is that i need to convert that video the sooner the better(I'd take me days to understand cmd lines).
Anyway, I have an idea why the both converters didn't keep the subtitles after the conversion was done : The subs format was ".IDX" and as far as i could understand it needs to be converted into ".srt" but the problem is that there are too many words that the program doesn't recognize hence the conversion takes too long and there might still be errors.
Could you please take a look at this(1 min of the actual video) to confirm what I said or I'm completely off?

That wouldn't work because I'd need to upload all the vids and then download them again which would take toooo long with 60KB/s upload.

Ive never looked into IDX or vobsub since its completely outdated and pointless to use. So in that regard I really can't help you too much. All I know is that they are a pain and no one uses them anymore.
Just go grab a release that uses .ass like everything else out there. All of the programs out there that "convert" do it differently than another program. Its really hard to assist you because those are not the tools I use. I just need to type textsub("dicks.ass") and bam I got my hardsubs but that is doing it all manually and scripting it all yourself.

Thanks for clarifying that. I thought as much - I knew that was a very old sub format.
BTW do you know where I can grab Ikkitousen season 1 in another format with better subs?

Check around nyaa, bakabt, tokyotosho and maybe some irc bots. It's out there somewhere on the internet.

Found it on nyaa and It's already in "Avi" so no need for conversion!
Another question :
What are some good irc channels that have a decent amount of anime? The only one that i know so far is #anime-supreme but I learned to use irc only a couple of weeks ago and I haven't used it much at all(yet).
