Classic- Coke & Mentos
-Why does the oil float on the water rather than mixing with it? This experiment will take some of the mystery out of this phenomenon.
1. Take a jar of water and put a drop of food coloring in it (Reeko prefers blue).
2. Now pour in some vegetable oil.
3. Next stir or shake the jar. Do the oil and water mix?
4. Finally, take another jar of colored water. Pour some rubbing alcohol slowly down the edge of the glass (the inside edge of course). Now stir or shake the jar. Do the liquids stay mixed?
When two liquids separate themselves into layers, like the oil and water do, we say the two liquids are immiscible (ih MISS ih buhl). Now you understand why it does no good to poor water on a grease (oil) fire. Also makes you understand how some creatures up North can swim around in icy cold water with no ill effects (hint, their coats are very oily).
-How salt can be used to lower the freezing point of water...
Not sure what this is but it looks pretty coolEver wonder why people pour salt on icy sidewalks to make the snow melt? Usually the result is a big pile of slush made of melted snow and ice crystals. And why do the lakes and streams freeze over solid while the ocean always remains flowing? Is there something magical about salt? Are there other uses for salt other than flavoring our food and raising our blood pressure? Let's try this experiment and see for ourselves.
Test #1:
1. Take 2 cups of water.
2. Place about a tablespoon of salt in one of the cups.
3. Place both cups in the freezer.
4. Check each cup about every 10 minutes. Can you guess which one will freeze first?
Test #2:
1. Now grab a ice cube out of the freezer.
2. Place the ice cube on a plate and begin sprinkling salt on the ice cube. Melt Down! Now you can understand why people put salt on their icy driveways.
Salt lowers the freezing point of water. Normally, water freezes when the temperature reaches about 32 degrees Fahrenheit (0 degrees Celsius). When you mix salt with water you actually lower this freezing point. Salty water will still freeze but the temperature has to be colder than it would for normal water. How much colder? That depends upon how much salt you put in the water. The more salt you add the colder it must get before the water freezes.

balloon and pins
Take a inflated balloon and put a piece of ducktape on the balloon. Now push a pin in the balloon. What happened?

Experiment: A scientist named Spalding brilliantly theorized that a baby chick's instinct to follow a mother hen originates in its brain. In an 1873 experiment, he removed the brains of baby chicks and placed the chicks a few yards from a mother hen.
Conclusion: Spalding's groundbreaking paper, "Instinct," tells us: "Decerebrated chicks will not move towards a clucking or retreating object.
Really? I thought you could do everything you normally could with a brain.

Experiment: To test the rumor that Coca-Cola is an effective spermicide, Harvard University researchers added sperm samples to test tubes, each containing a different type of Coke.
Conclusion: A minor success. Diet Coke was the most effective, followed by Classic Coke, New Caffeine-Free, and in last place, New Coke. Researchers suggest that levels of acidic pH and perhaps some secret formula components were the determining factors. In any event, a Coca-Cola official was quoted to say: "We do not promote Coca-Cola for medical purposes. It is a soft drink."

Experiment: Are rats psychic? In 1974, two parapsychologists named Craig and Treuriniet decided to find out. They put rats in a lab maze with only two exits... one leading to freedom, the other to death. (They would kill the rats.)
Conclusion: Half chose the correct path; half didn't. Unsatisfied with the results, Craig and Treuriniet theorized a correlation between the rat's psychic powers and phases of the moon.
Seriously WTF were they thinking? I bet they were high.

The pressure in the centre of the Earth is three million atmospheres and the temperature is 6,000 centigrade.
One study found that when men started an aerobic exercise program, they started having sex about 30 percent more often than they had before. (So buy him a treadmill ladies!)

/\ ;) I liked this one.

but i wonder towards where the pull of gravity is from the inner core
if more mass = more gravity, then would you be weightless at the center of the Earth since the pull of gravity is outwards (more towards the equator)?
if that is true, then perhaps the pressure is highest not at the center but more towards the mantle...
well, it's just an assumption so correct me if i'm wrong

That is a really good point but the problem with this is, is that we cant go to the core to test this theory. :( But the moon... We could get to the center of that....

Thing is, the core is not only molten, its also spinning much faster than Earth is actualyl spinning (moon wouldnt work, core = dead, solid and stopped).
The spinning generates more gravity than pressure or mass, and if you dug a hole straight theourgh the eartha nd jumped in, you would slingshot back and forth through the center

Bats aren't blind. They have eyes and they use them and only one of the two suborders of bats actually uses echolocation. So anyway, ddon't use the phrase "blind as a bat" plz.

You would reach the center and stay there, but you would be compacted, and obviously dead. The air pressure alone would kill you, not to mention the other things, like gravity and such.

Don't forget heat!
