Can a Ditto become amnesiac and forget it’s transformed into a Pokemon, so it genuinely believes it’s the Pokemon it’s transformed into? Would it have an existensial crisis if it found out it was just a blob?

It would have to have trauma in the brain for it to forget, even then that is unlikely since it is a blob. Also, it would not be able to maintain the transformation indefinitely since that require a lot of energy. Think of the pokemon moves requiring power points (pp) as its energy. The reason that pokemon stats boost from say "harden" don't last outside of battle is because it would require too much energy to maintain it. Same for the move transformation, it would eventually wear off after usage since the pokemon would eventually become tire after using it. Hope this answer your question.

Blobs can get damaged so it would be safe to assume it can get physical traumas. But you can get amnesia in more ways than one; psychological traumas and disease, to name a couple.

Has that ever actually been shown in the series or are you just basing that on state resets from leaving battle in the games?

Reading the Black and White 2 Pokedex entry, it says "It can reconstitute its entire cellular structure to change into what it sees, but it returns to normal when it relaxes." So if we're to accept this, the Ditto would be unable to maintain its form forever. However, that entry is kind of in direct conflict with many other entries that all say, "It can transform into anything. When it sleeps, it changes into a stone to avoid being attacked."

So, if it changes back to normal when it relaxes, how does it turn into a stone when sleeping?

I'm basing it off on leaving battle in the game, and assuming that pokemon do get fatigue if it keeps using its moves like any rpg that use a resource management system, mana, ect.
