So I open it up (I'm kind of surprised that to access it I have unscrew like 15 screws and pry the entire bottom case off.) cause I need to check how many slots I have.
What is the point of doing 1 4gb card and 1 2gb card?
Wouldn't it be more cost effective for the manufacture to just do 2 4 gb cards and just charge a little more?

Price for the laptop is lower when they have less ram and casuals don't care.

Nope. Unless you're gaming, you're not going to use more than 4 - 6 GB of RAM on a notebook, and that's on AAA titles. Well, sans that guy who has 300 tabs open in both Chrome and Firefox with a system plagued by an unholy amount of viruses. So, why raise the cost for something that people aren't going to use? Just going to generate less sales because consumers don't understand how to properly evaluate price:quality.
Also, do you need more than 6GB of RAM in your laptop? If your computer is slow or you're managing to use up that much memory there's likely a different problem there. Unless you're running AAA 2015 games, then it might help somewhat, but you're only going to go so far on laptop hardware anyway, unless it's pricey as fuck.

I've worked with Illustrator files nearing 2GB on a system with 4GB RAM and it ran fine, even with vectors scaled to 400%. Processing power is way more important if you want speedy workflow.
