He's saying かたくなる or katakunaru which apparently means "to become stiff; to tense"

The line before the last drawing says いとを はく or itowo haku. Google translate gave me "I wear thread"

I don't know Japanese either. I can just read hiragana and katakana. I just typed this shit into Google translate and denshi jisho.

Edit: Isn't there a Pokemon attack called "harden"? I'm guessing that would be a good translation for this.

Yes, both metapod and kakuna use harden, if they're met as wild pokemon or npc trainer pokemon, harden is their only attack lol.

Oh and that kakuna is shooting string shot from it's mouth :P its an attack that reduces the opponent's speed stat.

So we can assume 'HARDEN' 'HARDEN' and then lastly 'STRING SHOT'
