why everybody think in brazil, we speak spanish?

as i said in my introduce topic, i from Brazil, and i here because i like hentai and that type of stuff, and for praticle my english (so, sorry for my english of shit)and, well, as I'm here, i have a question: why everbody think's in brazil, we speak spanish? T.T.

It's Portuguese right?

Also it's cause a lot of people assume that just everyone under the California border speaks Spanish. It's not just Brazil.

Probably cause, spain did a lot of shit in central and south america back in the good ole days, so they associate most countries in that region to speak some form of spanish. Very few people even know that Portugal was even aroun and colonizing back then.

I've met Spanish speakers who can read Portuguese enough to get the gist of what the text is saying, but not effectively communicate in Portuguese.
