Who pays for return shipping?

Say if i buy a fakku book and it came damaged and i want to either return or exchange it, who exactly will pay for the shipping and what if it's international shipping? and also if i were to exchange it, who pays for the shipping to have the replacement sent to me? i live in canada.

Usually if you email them and show it's damage they just send you a new copy and you keep the damage one also.
