1gbps internet connection for $70 ... in the U.S.!

It's a 4 day old news but since it hasn't been posted here yet, I've taken this chance to share this news to everyone in FAKKU.
As you well know, The United States is far behind much of the developed world in Internet access, in both speed and price. An ISP in California is hoping to change that. Sonic.net is beginning a trial of 1Gbps fiber to the home in Sebastopol, California. The trial is expected to reach 700 homes in the area, after which the economic feasibility of the service will be evaluated. The service will be very affordable compared to current offerings, at only $70 per month, and will even offer free phone service. Most people around the country pay more than that for much slower service, myself included.
Sonic.net appears to know what it is doing, as it was awarded the contract to manage the Google fiber network at Stanford University. Hopefully this is a sign of things to come, and people all around the country will be able to enjoy Internet at this speed and price.

WTF 1gbps for 70$ a month?
In my country you have to pay more than 100$ to have just 1mbps, not mentioning the maximum download speed is never more than 300kbps.

The US is behind in internet access? Why don't you come over to New Zealand and check out their net.

Nah. Our cap, speed and prices is a joke. I'm on 40gb max download and upload for $70NZD. Australians get 5x the amount of cap at the same speed for the same price.

A question, just how much is $1NZD in USD?
Cuz in Indonesia, to get decent download speed you must pay more than $100 to get decent download speed. But since REV DO beta network is introduced, I have better internet life.

1 NZD is about 0.815636 USD so if I'm paying in USD I'll be paying about $57 for my internet access.

So, how fast is your download speed?
I pay about $20 a month, no download limit, and the average speed is about 30-60 kbps.

This might be interesting, but unfortunately, I live in the midwest and am stuck with Charter Communications for an undetermined amount of time.
