Am I a crazy otaku or is everyone else like this too?

Though I'm not much of a forums person I'd still like to ask for help.So now-a-days I don't study at all and I have some major exams coming up next month and I have this bad habit of reading any manga that I like in one go.(Once,I finished Mirai Nikki in a day even though I had an exam the next day.)
And sometimes I desperately try to find "anything" to read. And I stay awake till 4 or 5 in the morning(without my parents knowledge)only to get up at 6.30 again.I pull this off 2-3 days a week sometimes. So am I weird or are there others like me and if so how do you tackle this problem?
Also,I don't have friends who know anything about anime, for them anime=cartoon! I guess I should come the forums regularly if I want to make friends who know anime.
Any-who, please leave your suggestions.(Sorry for the long post, newcomer on the forums!)

No, you're not weird. I read/watch anime/manga in one go sometimes if I really like it too. It's because you actually enjoy it, so why not indulge in what you like? However, it is your fault for not setting priorities and studying for an exam rather than finishing Mirai Nikki (I dont blame you). I tackle this problem by thinking about the consequences of procrastination, usually that gives me some form of motivation to stop.

Watching anime and reading manga like that are fine, until it starts to get to have an unwanted noticeable effect on you. Using your Mirai Nikki example, I dont think thats a problem provided you pass the test. If you fail the test and you know you could/should/would have done better had you not read Mirai that night and you feel withdraw symptoms without manga/anime, then you should seek professional help.

What if the show you weren't watching wasn't an anime? What if it was some random television show? Watching something in one go doesn't mean you are weird, it means you like what you see. And yes, many people will stay up all night to watch something then go to sleep for an hour then go to work.

I don't know about doing a mini marathon before major exams. But on a normal day, if I happen to find a good title, then I would try to finish it as soon as possible. One time I finished reading Suzuka in one day, simply because it was a free day and it was freezing outside. Anime wise, I finished watching Avatar: Legend of Korra in one day and I still had time to go out for personal stuff.
However, the late night stuff you do I am not sure if its considered "normal". Different people have different desires. Some will use that time to play games, study or wank. I like to use that time to have a good night sleep because I am not much of a night person.

Pretty much what I do. Or at least near all-nighters. I find an interesting manga/anime, and hello marathon! For example, I was watching Steins:Gate and it was about 2ish in the morning, and I reached episode 12.
Watched it.
Then, fuck sleep.

I also finish any series in one sitting. Be it manga, anime, or a Tv series. Which is precisely the reason I have trouble getting into anything new. Before I dive into something new; I make sure I read up on reviews if this would really be top class. If it's not, then it's not worth my time. It may sound elitist but if I'm going to spend like half a day for it I'd at least hope it's really good.
As for your problem. I swear, STUDYING FOR AN EXAM either before the day itself or accumulating knowledge by periodically studying day by day (like 1 hour each day) IS A FREAKING AMAZING FEELING. Because once you sit down and you're able to answer most if not all the questions, it gives you some sort of egotistical boost.
Now for the friends bit. Find more friends, you shouldn't limit yourselves to people you know as of now. I'm assuming you go to college, so it is absolutely certain that at least 1 person there has an interest in anime also. You just have to go around more. It's usually people who enjoy video games or even random people from different organizations or clubs.

I have the same problems, i also watched Mirai Nikki almost straight(had to go to work halfway through) and i read the elfen lied manga straight through. but ive been like that for years with video games. I guess its really just a matter of self control, and willing yourself to do important things before you let your hobbies get in the way rather than putting them off for later.
As for making friends who like anime, i know how you feel, i have two friends who like anime, and neither of them to nearly the same degree as me, so its really hard to find someone to talk to about it with, especially now that im taking a break from school, but thats what the internet is for i guess.

It is called addiction, not a crazy otaku. Based on my personal experience, try to occupy yourself with other things other than reading manga like sports, extracurricular activities, hanging out with your friends, and etc. Those materials would not go anywhere. Really. I am also assuming you are reading it online, so just bookmark it for the meantime until you are ready to read it again when you are done with your work.
There is also another method if you find yourself having a hard time doing the one I previously stated. I call it as the "disappointment overload". You might encounter some manga which you deem interesting, but contrary to your expectations, you realized that it was full of crap or the story somehow derailed to its plot, or maybe it had a terrible ending.
I had experienced this when I was hooked up reading ecchi animes, and then eventually I grew tired of their typical plot and scene. This drove me to my two or three months hiatus of watching any anime. Despite this, I have still been downloading new ones day-by-day so that it won't be hassle to watch it by the time I want to go back from my hobby.
In the end, just like some of the users above said, it is all about the matter of "self-control". I believe that most things can become undesirable if done excessively.

Just don't let your hobby take over your life. I used to be like that too, but then my studies (and social life!) suffered.

I don't really think theres a problem with it until it starts taking over your life, and you can't do daily tasks anymore.
I also watch an anime in one night. I think a lot of us do lol
