Anti-virus program conflicts?

Mmkay, so I have a quandary with my comp's security, and everybody here in the tech forum is my first stop for the info I need. Here's my problem in a nutshell: I had McAfee Total Protection for three years, and now my subscription has finally run its course. I have a one year Norton Internet Security and Norton Utilities subscription that I have to install on my comp now. BUT, here's the catch; the McAfee software on my comp was custom made for Dell computers, and I'm not sure if I want to entirely uninstall it just in case I can come up with the money to get a new subscription at a later date. So my question to all of you is, can I have both McAfee Total protection and Norton Internet Security 2010 installed on a computer at the same time without any problems, or will doing so cause program conflicts and slow my comp down to a snail's pace?

I'm not really an expert, but if you disable McAfee from running at Windows Start, i suppose it'll not be a problem...

This is why I hate McAfee, it's a royal pain in the butt. I assume all you did is turn it off in MSConfig? If so you also need to disable the service.
Click start -> run and type in services.msc (Or the search box in Vista/Win 7)
Find the McAfee service right click and set to Disable
Go back into MSConfig and make sure it's unchecked and then reboot.
This should turn it off for ya.

I would just turn them all off, anti-virus is nothing but a waste of good processing speed. You should only need it on if you are browsing non-familiar sites from a search engine.
