Are dreamwriters weird?
0
just to clarify what a dreamwriter is its not someone that writes in there sleep though this is obvious.
its actually someone that remembers dreams or atleast part of it then either writes out the dream filling in the blanks when necessary or otherwise uses the dream as inspiration or a basis of writing a storyline.
basically dreamwriters do not have to write out the dream exactly or at all but to just use it to make a story, now as a dreamwriter myself having both written out my dreams as a whole or created my own stories based on and inspired by several dreams, I'm just curious does anyone find this weird?

I have never actually heard the term before but I think I despise it already... It seems odd to attribute a certain designation to a person who writes by drawing inspiration on something. Being inspired by a dream is quite common as is being inspired by ordinary, extraordinary, true or false events. I don't see the need for a term.
Having said that, I wouldn't use the word weird. Surreal seems more fitting, maybe even bizarre. However, if the dreams are ultimately meaningless, whatever you write, film or paint could be interpreted as bland, boring and pseudo-artistic. In that event, one wishes they would call it weird since it would mean they couldn't figure it out.

ah at first I thought you were going to try to insult me again lol,
however you do have some good input fact being that I first heard of what a "dreamwriter" is about 5 close to 6 years ago added to the fact that I haven't met very many others who use these methods,
I didn't think that people who write there dreams draw inspiration from their dreams or use fragmented dreams as a starting point of a longer story were too common but apparently atleast according to you there are a lot more "dreamwriters" out there
also on a side note do you know of any writers that use or have used these methods a name or two would be much appreciated, also just out of curiosity why do you hate the term "dreamwriters"

See, that's the things... I can't name you a «dreamwriter» but I can name you a writer who has stated one of his books, poems or part of them was inspired by a dream.
I think I hate the term for two reasons: number one, people are, or at least should be, free to draw inspiration from whatever they want and I think they do. Therefore, calling oneself a «dreamwriter» is like a tiger claiming to be vegetarian for no good reason, apparently. Number two, nowadays psychologists have good reason to believe dreams are mostly, if not wholly, meaningless which means that if you are going to ignore what I believe to be normal (the idea that we draw inspiration from everything, sometimes without realizing it) and only focus on dreams, you have a good chance of writing a ton of bollocks.

Spoiler:
are you sure your talking about inspiration? cus I doubt anyone can be inspired by everything I can understand people being aware of whats around them and gaining knowledge or some form of information from everything they see however being inspired I don't think so unless your the type to be stunned impressed and amazed by even the smallest and most insignificant fragment around
and also I think you may be too focused on the drawing inspiration from dreams part and not paying very good attention to the other detail sometimes the story can just be the dream itself or slightly fragmented dream with added filler or transitional material for better connection from scenario to scenario to create a better overall story, that's not to say that everything I write is from dreams I do write my own material and I do write my own stories and poetry however most of my material was taken from dreams
and lastly what's this deal about meaning? why does everything have to have some sort of meaning or lesson to create an interesting story?
listen most of my dreams I get a first person perspective I always start off with combat knife and a handgun always a 45.caliber, most the time a 9 round clip usually carrying hallowpoint bullets, everything else I scavenge from corpses that I find or I take from people I've killed.
frankly with all that goes on the shooting, stabbing, torturing, poisoning, decapitation, impalement, incineration, electrocution, and if you count the use of acid or the nuke that was used in one of my dreams you could add disintegration, I don't think you'll find any meaning to any of it and if there was it would be very straightforward like "survive by any means necessary" or "shoot before you get shot" not saying that's what it means but its atleast what these dreams are implying and frankly that's about as far as I've thought it through.
and just something to note I don't write all my dreams honestly some of them just either don't have a story to tell or I wake up or I get killed before anything of interest happens (and wake up a tad more shellshocked then I normally would be)
and only times I know there will be a story to tell is when I do not have any control over it as I have stated previously most the dreams I have a first person view I can control my body as I would normally however in this alternate case I am not even really there I am simply "hovering" around someone else watching them try to survive or die in this twisted and fked up warzone of a dreamworld usually waking up when they either escape or get killed.

1- You are the one who doesn't seem to know what inspiration is. I am not only referring to a «ah-ha» moment of enlightenment, I am speaking about the collection of our experiences that, consciously or unconsciously, we draw inspiration from. For instance, while dreams are a complicated subject, experts have determined that you don't think anything new in your dreams. In other words, if you see someone you don't recognize, it is not a person you created, it is someone you saw sometime in your life and kept in your subconscious memory. In short, the things you know aren't entirely your imagination.
2- That expression pretty much sums up my entire point. I believe I don't need to say more on that.
3- You are perfectly free to follow Dada if you want, but don't expect to be taken as a deep thinker and you most certainly cannot expect to have your readers look for meaning in your texts, as you did before. If you want to make meaningless literature, fine. Just don't go thinking people are idiots who'd spend their time, or perhaps money, reading dream reports with «added filler».
Now, to finish up this rather boring conversation, I just have two points to make. First, I think I have pointed out that you seem like a pre-teen going through a phase that I am slightly embarassed to say I've gone through myself. I call it the «Blood, gore and violence are cool, life is meaningless and emotions are dumb» phase. Not a very good title but the point is made. If I am wrong about this, you are either mentally disturbed, and I say this, not to offend, but as any doctor would, or you can be a very interesting writer, provided of course, that you learn how to write properly. Which leads me to my next point. Major case words are important, as are punctuation marks. Plus, avoid repetions like starting four paragraphs with the word «and» and avoid inconsistencies as well, like, stabbing and torturing are verbs, incineration and electrocution are nouns. It would be a stronger sentence without the present continuous.
That is pretty much the reason I think you are just going through a phase - you write in a very immature manner. I suppose that is all I have to say.

Spoiler:
there you go calling me underage and immature again why? because I have a different view then what you consider the norm?
because I disagree with you on a few subjects?
let me just put this simply for you I did not grow up hiding behind a computer I did not have some spoiled childhood I did not have a rich kid lovey dovey family I my father tried to kill both me and my mother and I grew up training to kill my own father I grew up with gangsters and grew up knowing I couldn't trust anyone not even my own mother fact is she tried to kill me when I was about 9.
almost felt like every 2 weeks someone I knew got killed and that whole
"violence is cool life is meaningless emotions are dumb" that's a fucking insult do you think I wanted this? no I was forced into it there have been so many times I wanted to just break down and start crying but I couldn't and subconsciously I forced myself not to because that's how my mother the streets and in a sense my father and aggressive fucking family raised me to be.

No, you are either deliberately twisting my words or you can't understand them. You seem quite fond of the straw man fallacy...
I am calling you immature because of the way you write, which is immature, and also because of how eager you are to share your disturbing story and your nasty dreams. Well, if they are true, I owe you an apology but it will only be a half sincere one because I don't buy any of it. If they are false, which I think they are, everything I said is right. To me, you come across as a kid who can't wait to share his so called dark side and, interestingly enough, thinks the best way to do that is joining a fapping site. Let me guess, you have no sexual interests, right? Don't answer, I'm quite done with this.

Spoiler:
and I'm done being called immature by someone who clearly doesn't understand the true nature of the world or the areas I was born and raised in
fact is just because you don't understand a culture or someones views doesn't give you the right to say they are of less intelligence or less maturity then you and fact being I'm actually considered wise beyond my years even when I was young
listen you can put yourself in denial all you want and tell yourself that no one of violent history exists
and no its not like I'd want to go about forcing my past on people but anytime I join any forum site I have thoughts and opinions that can be considered extreme and excessive basically hinting that I either have a history of bad experiences or that I'm a complete psychopath which I am not and I don't want anyone to assume I am so naturally I say straight from the start that I am a former gang affiliate plus with that knowledge people would be more likely to see in some topics that I may have some good points because rather then just being some bystander with an overinflated opinion that I was actually involved in that particular situation or at the very least a similar situation
just some quick answers
have no sexual interests?
not true just a tad suppressed I do enjoy Fakku's mangas particularly vanillas
"To me, you come across as a kid who can't wait to share his so called dark side and, interestingly enough, thinks the best way to do that is joining a fapping site."
I find it funny you think this is the only online community I joined as I have stated before I am trying to readjust to normal society and I figure best way to start is to get involved in online communities where people are judged on there comments/interactions with each other and frankly I enjoy the open mindedness of sexuality on this forum
immature because of writing? ok valid point my grammar and my spelling is not my strong point but that doesn't mean I myself am immature or lacking intelligence or that my posts or views are completely unintelligent and honestly thank you for your input I am trying to work on my spelling/grammar but I don't see myself turning into fkin Shakespear anytime soon k sry
and uh fyi if you don't want me to message you then don't message me I don't always jump to message others individually however I do always respond to those who message me of significant length and content usually two sentence minimum
honestly I couldn't care if you sent me a message saying insults or just plain out "fuck you" long as it didn't pass two sentences I wouldn't respond honestly do to the content of that sort of thing I might not have responded anyway due to lack of significant content
the simple fact that I even took the time to respond to you from the start was cause you seem intelligent although honestly your a bit of an asshole ( sorry but I'm just saying ^^;..) but your smart not sure why but for some reason I like
that.
I'm actually hoping sometime we might be able to discuss some subjects on better terms however unfortunately I don't see that happening anytime soon frankly asshole or not I enjoy seeing the multiple different views or opinions of subjects from intelligent people lets me learn a bit more of something or to be able to take in a different perspective of that subject
and with that adios good luck with any other topic or subject you may be working on

Now now, lets be friendly here on Fakku.
I know, it's a fapping site, but it doesn't mean we can't discuss things like these on Forums.
About your post, no, it's not weird ( btw SolidShark spelled it wrongly ), secondly, I do it too, I dream a lot and I do create stories from the dreams I've had, or at least get some sort of idea.
Now, to answer some of your replies, I find your way of thinking a tad odd, it's by no means 'Immature' (IMO, since maturity is (to me) a relative thing), but your statement,"and also I think you may be too focused on the drawing inspiration from dreams part and not paying very good attention to the other detail" felt a bit skewed to me.
Dreams are a collective of conscious and subconscious thoughts that we experience in our daily lives, since you say you have a violent background, it's not that big of a surprise that your dreams are related to violence. In that sense, dreams basically inspiration of our minds! Our brains connect seemingly unrelated things, and create a whole new world for us in our dreams. For example, I own a black leather chair, one day, I dreamt of being with a woman on that very black leather chair.
What Nateriver10 wrote " For instance, while dreams are a complicated subject, experts have determined that you don't think anything new in your dreams. " are quite true, actually, since for me, I haven't 'met' anyone who I never met before IRL, even if I do dream of a person I never met, I never see their faces for some reason, just some parts of their body.
Also, back to your point on 'not paying very good attention to the other details', I find that it's natural, really. I think we would be more focused on what the main idea behind the dream is than what the dream has, for example, again, I remember the leather black chair, the woman, but do I remember anything other that the main things? Nope.
TL;DR, Dreams are not weird (wierd), I make stories out of dreams, dreams are created from experiences, be friendly to each other
