basic guitar songs

What type of music do you want to play? I remember that one of the very first songs I ever learned to play was Enter Sandman. I don't necessarily listen to Metallica, but the song was a pretty good start for me.
And, of course, you don't have to learn the whole thing; just practice different parts of different songs.

There are loads upon loads of songs you can play while starting to learn, but what genres are you interested in playing? I suggest you name a few here so those who know something about learning guitar can tell you if they're a good start, and give a few hints and tips.
How long have you been playing? Personally I'd say that you should try to learn the chords and to switch easily between them before learning an actual song. Learning scales are also a good move. I'd start of with the major pentatonic scale, but that might just be me.

What kind of rock?
I think early Black Sabbath is good beginner stuff, same goes for everything by Blink. You may not like the latter, but it doesn't get any easier I think. (lol)

well i got my acuostic guitar like a week ago and my uncle told me to work on songs instead of learning them one by one and I believe him because I see him play the guitar and he is really goodWhatever works for you man. The first song I learned was Wonderwall with Oasis, basically E G D A over and over. Well, for the verse at least. Also learn the progression: D A B G and C G Am F, they are simple patterns(They're the same actually in different keys) and are very useful as you can play most 3Chord pop/rock songs on these chords. Basic music-theory ftw.

Some 90's songs are easy but I just picked this one 'cause it came to mind.

The first song I learned to play was Iron Man by Black Sabbath. Other than the solo it's an easy song. After that I moved on to Steriogram and System of a Down songs. Some of those are pretty easy too. Like Nashrakh said, the majority of Blink-182's songs are pretty easy just using power chords. Just learn some of the songs you like to listen to.

Well I for one started off by playing we're not gonna Take it by Twisted Sister. It's a really easy song with a really easy solo. Also, I don't know if this is your cup of tea, but you could also try Raison D'etre by dir en grey. it's complicated but fun to play, or atleast it was for me, though it took me like 4 months to get the guitar solo down...
but I'm gonna go with Baka579 on this one, I suggest you start with chords or at least make learning the chords your main priority, thats just my two cents though...

For an easy lead song try More Than a Feeling by Boston
For a pretty easy rhythm song try American Pie by Don McLean (mostly in G)
