Building New Things out of Old Things

I recently found an interesting article on how to build a cutting laser out of an old computer heatsink and the power supply.Cutting Laser So I was wondering whether anyone else had any snazzy ideas or had found an idea that was based off of taking something old and "useless" and turning it into something new and exciting.
