computer/minecraft problem?

Just recently I put more ram in my computer, before I had 4 gb and I upgraded to 6 gb, when I had 4 gb and played minecraft I would get no lag, even on highest settings, but it seems like after I added ram it began lagging a little bit, and not just minecraft. It seems like my programs are taking more time to open than they used to, does anybody know what could be wrong?
the specs for my computer are:
Intel E6700 dual core processor 3.20 ghz
6 gb ram
Not sure about my video card

Is your mobo a two slot ram or was the 4 gb one chip. In your system display does it show that you have 6 gb? There could be a program running in the background that lagging the memory or bad system file or something... use speecy for a display hardware and maybe run memtest

I had 4 slots with 1 gb chip each, I removed 2 of the 1 gb chips and replaced them with 2 2 gb chips, i had to put them in sequence because when I didnt the computer wouldnt work. as for speccy, it says I have 6 gb installed, but my computer is running slower than it used to. and when I had 4 gb minecraft wouldnt lag at all, a friend of mine said the RAM might not have installed properly but I dont think thats the case.

Maybe it oculd have been a ram compatibility issue? For some reason in my laptop i upgrade my ram to 2gig and its working pretty slow but then i reformatted my laptop just to be sure and its working faster than before. Try going back to the 4 gigs of ram you have and see if it goes back to the way it was. If it does then maybe its relaly that your computer is slightly rejecting the increase in ram.

Likely issues regarding RAM:
- Exceeds amount supported by motherboard
- Exceeds or is significantly lower than speed supported by motherboard
- DDR different from other RAM.
- Seated incorrectly. Some motherboards will have dual-channel slots labeled incorrectly/not at all, or will just dislike it if you have RAM in one slot over another.

The maximum supported by my motherboard is 8 GB, Im sure I replaced DDR3 Ram with DDR3 Ram, im not sure about the speeds so that may be a problem, and I do have dual channel slots, which is why I put the Ram in sequence, It wouldnt work when the 2 gb chips were next to each other on the board

Well, if you expected your programs to launch any faster, they generally won't with the increased RAM because 4 is more than enough. If the perceived difference is quite significant, it could be that you somehow took your RAM out of Dual-Channel, but I don't think even that would cause such a drop in performance.
If you have a night where you can leave your computer running that whole time, I recommend you run Memtest86+. Another option is that you can individually try each stick (leave one in, and all the others out) and send it through a boot cycle to see if there is one that is bad. However, if one was bad, I don't think your computer would boot to begin with.
It could also be software related. Especially if you installed something and leave it running in the background (aka a Minecraft server), it might significantly slow down your computer.
