DVD burning software/softsubs

I have two torrented animes [both Evangelion rebuild movies] I want to put onto DVD so I can view them with a more potent sound system than my computer, and so that multiple persons may watch them at the same time.

One has English hardsubs, the other Russian[default] and English softies.
Firstly, is there a free DVD burning program out there I can use?
Secondly, is there a way to still be able to use softsubs on a commercial DVD player?
