Ever got fake figurines?
0
As far as searching for this topic goes, I didn't find any. So if there is please forgive me for this.
Okay, now for the topic.
Have you guys ever mistakenly bought a fake figurine, online or otherwise?
I'v recently scoured through online figure shops for this anime character I'v been looking for.
I'v found multiple sites selling her figurines but all of them have different prices compared to what the original manufacturing is selling it for.
(Eg. In the official website(Alter, in this case) they're selling it for 6000 yen, but in different online figurine stores(amiami, in this case) they sell it for a 5-20% discount)
This seems really fishy to me because:
1. Wouldn't they lose out on money?
2. There would be no way to know if the figure is fake or not until you pay for it and the figure arrives. Especially if the product is a "Pre-order"
What do you guys think? Am I over reacting? Should I not give a flying fuck and just buy her figures online already?
[size=10]I just really want to get those Charlotte figures already.[/h]

It really depends on the figure, I have a fake Konata figma that looked very good except it was fragile, but I have seen bootleg Nendoroids that looked like they have been put through a dishwasher, there are good bootlegs and bad bootlegs, almost always the price is a good indicator if its fake or not.

You're definitely just over-reacting in this case. It is possible to buy bootleg figures if you aren't buying from a reputable seller.
In this case, AmiAmi is a reputable seller. As are Hobby Search and HLJ, though there are likely many more I'm leaving out.
What it boils down to, is that Alter sets a high MSRP, which sellers can then discount at their own choice. They literally order thousands of figures direct from Alter, so they're likely paying 3-4k per unit for that 6k figure, which allows them to "discount" the price that Alter sets as the MSRP.
Now if you're buying from eBay or some other shady site, then you could be worried. But AmiAmi is legit.

A lot of legit websites sell figures at discount prices because the figure might be old. If a figure is around for a year or more after it's release then it is time to discount it because it has become dead stock.
I have willingly bought bootleg figures knowing they were bootleg because I liked the way they looked, I do not normally do it and only did it the one time.

Remember me?
I have a feeling some of my Gundam FFN's might be fake. But I don't really care.
Fake or not they look hella cool.

eBay is notorious for fakes, but like I said earlier, you can still get good fakes, its just completely random.

So far, I didn't get a fake Nendo or anything. Then again, the only things I have are Medaka PVCs, Rias Gregory figurine, Hanekawa figurine, Ikaros Figurine, and 2 other things.

Go to myfigurecollection.net -> Search for that Figure -> Check for Comments and Red Counterfeit word.

I bought a fake shana nendoroid once at this random anime shop. Never went back their again. Still have it but the stand doesnt work right so she cant stand up and the back of her hair isnt fully painted. Tis just sitting in a cupboard. The experience kind of put me off nendoroid figures as it was my first one and I havent purchased any since even though it is no fault of the figure line itself. I was young then and it was only my second figure purchase before I had a credit card for online stuff so it is easy to see why I got suckered.
Anywho, Ive used amiami several times and theyre definetly legit so youve got nothing to fear.
The only time you needto be careful when shopping online is ebay and sites like it really.
Also jlist will charge at least a third more on every figure they sell compared to most retailers but pricing is a different matter.

As far as I am aware, no, I haven't.
I make sure to check the figures images closely and check if it is a reliable website/seller.

OT: when I was about 7 I got these fake ass GI joe action figures, after about a month one of their hands fell of. Used to just pretend it was an arm canon but I cried a little inside.[/h]

I managed to avoid fake products during the few times I've bought figures on eBay, but otherwise, I don't think I ever got any fakes.
My brother on the other hand, ended up getting a fake 1/144 Raider Gundam gunpla. The bandai logo was completely different except the red color, which should've been the big hint. The kit itself was shoddy with subpar plastics and a number of parts didn't fit together well.

A vendor at a convention I was just at had a fake nichijou figurine, kinda pissed me off because it was nano and shes getting hard to find. I actually found out due to a typo. I pointed it out and he took it off the shelf to his dismay. I ended up getting a K-ON figure that I needed for 60% OFF! Just for pointing out the mistake.
Vendors handle hundreds of figurines/DVD's/wallscrolls/games/etc. They over-look things sometimes. On a website though, its a flip of a coin.

One of the biggest thing you need to look at is the Paint. Figurines are painted care and quality in mind. Fake figurines are usually painted with very low quality (and might I say oily) paint-job. the paint is highly reflective and is obvious that it never quite sits well. A VAST majority of the time the paint is a dead giveaway.

Stay away the Chinese knock-offs, they are crap. Spend the money and get the real deal. Learned that lesson the hard way.

Learned that lesson the hard way.I hate to break it to you but all commercial Japanese figures or even American are produced in China by the same people who copy the cast or just recast them after the run. It's just the materials are cheaper and in China if it not for overseas they don't do quality work or checks. That's why that Chinese product in Walmart is better or last longer then China domestic products or bootlegs.
Some bootlegs aren't too bad. Plus 30 vs 300 just to stoke your epenis isn't such a good thing. I only have one bootleg and it's fine from view point. Go to it and look at close then you see the defects. Or in my case move it since the peg in the hip is loosely fits the rest of the figure and I'm too lazy to seal the part.
