Fraternities (or Soroity)

Did you join one? If so, why, what made you, enjoy it or not and of course, which one. I begin my pledging tomorrow night for Kappa Sigma in the Delta Zeta chapter, will be a founding father as well. I figure I'd join to be included in a nation wide group of similar minded people (hopefully) and have some fun with some really good guys.

I wouldn't ever join one. They're useless, in my opinion. The only benefit I can think of would be the connections you could make and use later in life, but I don't agree with doing things that way (getting a job because the boss was your frat brother, for example).

I was in the two year school honor society, Phi Theta Kappa, but now I'm at a four year school.
And have no interest in joining any. I get that they do community service and all, but yeah, they're still exclusive social groups I could never live with myself for being a part.

its basically useless..
i've joined an actualy brotherhood (religious group) long long time ago and they were all about their beliefs and i was a person who relied more on logical explanation, they were fanatics about their belief and i really didnt fit in..
fraternity = brotherhood
--> didnt work out the way i thought it would be

Durring collage they seem to be about binge drinking, hazing, and exclusion.
after collage, in the work place, they are about nepotism.

Well the equivalent for these in Finland are so called "nations" and I did join one. Surely they are useless (nowadays the students' union handles the important stuff) but they do arrange nice activities and I can meet nice people there so it's all good I suppose.

No, I see no real applications with it. And, at least in my area, quite a few of the frats are douche bags (figuratively speaking, of course). By this, I mean the stereotypical (artificial) jersey-shore personality mixed in with a preppy "holier than thou" attitude.

I was in one for 2 1/2 years in college, Gamma Phi Beta (ΓΦΒ).
I kind of agree that it's kind of useless. I would've made friends with these people and gone to parties with them and whatever else regardless of whether I joined the house or not. I never took it seriously, I just liked wearing crescent moons and silver and pink. The traditions and rush and any other crap associated was just a bunch of bullshit that we put up with.
If you feel like you need to belong to a specially-titled group and pay a shit ton of money to be friends with people, something's pretty wrong. I enjoyed most of my time in the Greek system, but I wouldn't suggest it for anyone else. I would've faired just as well without it.
And I wouldn't have had to spend a year in a house and learn to hate certain bitches.

nope, i think its just to make you look cool. Its practically useless, depending on other people for things such as money, wont get you anywhere when you get old.
