Gaming mouse test, it actually makes a difference

So I borrowed a friend's mouse from work b/c he was talking about how he improved his skills in CS by buying this mouse.

I been using a MX 510 for years now and I never had the urge to upgrade telling him DPI setting are gimmicks or only for the most shizophrenic CS players. So he went to my house bringing his mouse and his "gaming" mouse pad, and set it up on my computer, setting it to 5600 dpi with the lowest mouse sensitivity in my Deadspace game.
Oh man, did it make a difference, everything was just easier to do. I noticed I was putting down enemies faster b/c I didn't have to compensate for misses as much. With my MX 510, I set the sensitivity higher than normal to compensate the sluggish default mouse aim, but now I can see that that made my tracking "skip" throwing off my aim just enough to make me miss sometimes.
So yeah, you don't have to be a pro gamer, or the twitching CS player to notice the difference a gaming mouse makes. I wanted to laugh at him for being "Korean" enough to spend 60 bucks on a "gaming" mouse, but now I am thinking of buying one 5600 dpi gaming mouse myself. I am currently looking at

I am thinking the G500 b/c the ergonomics are the same as my old MX 510. Do you guys have any input on which one I should get? Cuz like my MX 510, I am planning to use it for a long time.

Depends how much you want to spend.
Generally the best bang for buck gaming mouses considered by many people out there now are the MX518, G5 and Razer Copperhead. I have owned all three and can say that going with the MX518 is the best choice.
Compared to the others, "apparently" The Razer Copperhead is a better mouse performance wise, but i didn't like the ergonomics of it in my hand while the MX51/G5 ergonomics are like an orgasm in my hand. The difference between a MX518 and a G5 are basically nothing except for a few little buttons and price in which the MX518 is cheaper.
You'll never ever use more than 3000 DPI when playing games so a mouse that has 1000 - 2000 DPI is ideal.
Also if you want premium performance from your gaming mouse then investing in a decent mouse pad helps the cause a lot more than you would think. I think this might of been the reason your mouse felt "sluggish"
Ive got myself a G500 mouse and a MX518 mouse with a Razer Mantis mousepad.

The laser mice with high dpi is mostly a gimmick, since you have to lower the sensitivity so much that you might as well be using a regular mouse.
But if you really do want to buy one, I recommend the G500 out of the 3 you are considering. It really is the best of the three.

g500 or g9x. My brother has the g500 and he loves it, and I have used it and I was quite pleased with it too. Razer mice tend to break down pretty fast, at least that it what I have seen from my experience.

I've played around with my mate's Razer Mamba great wireless mouse: comfortable, fast and accurate.
Although I haven't used the current generation Logitech gaming mice I can tell you they're great mice, personally I own a second gen G5 and it's been going strong for a couple of years now.
I think the most important aspect of choosing your mouse is how comfortable you are using it this is a factor that helps give you that extra edge in a game.
So if you have a chance see how each of the mice feel and how comfortable you are with each.
If you're after a wireless gaming mouse look no further than the Razer Mamba, if you're after wired the Logitech gaming mice will do you proud.

I've always wanted a gaming mouse but I hate wired mice so much :C
Not big on wires. (also yes I know some exist but I can't spend like $130+ on just a mouse)

interesting mouse, but i am a little skeptical of it's ability to improve gaming performance. if it did help your friend improve though, more power to him.
i think i might just get it just for the spectacular lighting.

I really didn't believe how a mouse could actually help. However, the mouse was precise enough that he bought his hard gaming mouse pad b/c he says my regular mouse pad would throw off his mouse. The thing just glides like a dream.
I know its anecdotal, but really made a difference. Maybe part of the fact was my mouse (Logitech MX 510) was only 800 DPI, while this mouse was 5600 DPI. 800 DPI with high sensivity = Inaccurate aiming.
5600 = Lowest sensitivity = real smooth aiming.
I am looking at the mouse on newegg.com. Its still pricey and my wife wasn't too pleased when I showed her the link and tried to explain to her why I wanted to buy it. So I can go instant gratification now and buy older cheaper gaming mouse models or I can check for sales. Once you go 5600 dpi however, you can't go back so I guess I will check for sales.
