Group Activities

Lately I've been "dragged" into doing more and more activities that involve people. Last week it was flag football another week it was Gears of War's and earlier this week it was a raid in WoW. Personally I'm familiar with these things but I'm not the best, but my teammates are and they expect to win. Don't get me wrong they're nice people, but I've never really enjoyed grouping with others simply because some find explaining it to the new guy a waste of time or they expect you to know it before you jump into it. So I was wondering how do you deal with being the odd man out in team based activities?

I watch them do it first, or tell them to explain it to me. If I mess up oh well.

anything online like raids or video games I try to do research, look up tips and just be careful and ask questions.
Offline? well, just hope for the best and give it some serious effort. Unless they are dickheads, they won't really say anything to you personally... just maybe some rage later on in private.

I usually asked what they wanted me to do before i got into a raid boss fight. But also, i never really got into any random raid groups, it was all scheduled on the calender, so i signed up then looked up raid boss fights.
For games in general, i'm pretty good with teamwork, aslong as the group doesn't go apeshit all over the place, then rage at me when i get KO'd because everyone ran off somewhere tryna be cool >.>

Try to read up as much as you can on the activity before joining them. That way you at least have a small amount of knowledge and they won't have to feel so annoyed at having to explain everything to some new guy.

Last time I did that, I got dragged into a game of rugby.
I now have braces on my bottom teeth because they got effed up.
Now I have learned to just stay inside my house where it's safe.

Well, it haven't been recent but I did recently get into PokemonTCG and I just simply asked my friends how they set up decks or their methods to create combos and they easily helped me. For random people, I hardly get many invites to group activities. I could care less though. Just find the right people(friends) and start some sort of group activity or join an ongoing one. I'm sure they'll be glad to add another member to the activity.

I was kind of the odd man out when I started getting back into the Yugioh TCG. But now I'm so intuned with it again, I'm playing on the same level as some of friends (from a competitive standpoint). Hell, I even got one of my other friends into yugioh, and she's already got the game's structure down in one night. Even made her own deck lol.
Group activities are always enjoying for me though. I got my GB team for Gears of War 2 (and 3 when it comes out), got a nice group of solid players to spar with in BBCS2, gotta good crew for music, and friends for yugioh.
Shit, I even got a cool little group here at fakku who I can discuss anime and hentai with.
I always welcome anyone for BBCS2 or Yugioh casuals though.

Find a different team.
What's the point of going out? We're just going to wind up back here anyway.

I just learnt to live being the odd one out.
I never play FPS multiplayer games yet all my friends do, so when they ask me to play and I suck I just says "I told you I was no good, so stop bitching".

Thank you everyone for your input, My friends are Ok with explaining things to me, but its random people that I've been having problems with. I've been running into a lot of rage quitters and elitists both irl and online and even though they don't say it to my face they do tend to blame the weakest link. lol I might just have to find my own game to play.
