Gruff for aspiring artists

Curious, has anyone else here ever had people disapprove of you trying to learn to draw? hentai especially, I mean it's a huge learning curve, its a long time before you get to really impress anyone. I've often had friends and family approach me about it, it's a strange thing to get support for. Has Fakku had similar experiences?

My parents are pretty chill about me drawing. They don't really care about what I draw, since they aren't too artsy themselves, but they enjoy the fact that I'm so commited to it. I don't go around showing them my work, since it's really against my nature, but I do tell them if I find some stuff related to drawing, like drawing material that I want to buy or some cool animation I found.
My friends (what friends?) didn't really encourage/discourage me to draw. One of them critiqued my stuff from time to time, but that's about it.

I'm officially recognized among everybody I know as 'the strange guy', so- no matter what the hell I do- it's perfectly normal.

I had trouble with some artists in Junior High that ridiculed my art because it wasn't as good as theirs. I only started learning how to draw in 6th grade, so it really bummed me out that they would be so rude about it. I don't have a talent for art, but a skill. My parents supported my hobby because it made me happy, and I was a pretty mopey kid back then. Now I'm fucking raging with happy.
The only thing they don't support is the hentai because my dad is not too keen about cartoons, and I do believe he prefers the 'real thing' since I found one of his porn DVDs while searching for a pair of socks. Teehee. My mom is very cutthroat censor, even if she's not too religious. I usually need a wall and a tank to draw my hentai.

people are generally cool with my drawing.
the only thing is they dont give their two cents on it.
well not anymore, they just more a less just say 'thats nice' 'keep it up'
you know a little criticism would of helped when im developing my art.
its okay though i got past that rut of knowing i really sucked at some point in highschool so im good i guess

My brother is a tattoo artist, so he was kinda supportive growing up. I actually hated him looking at anything I drew though because he always told me I sucked lol. But it did help me because I became really good at it :). I probably never would of wanted to draw if I didn't see how much attention and compliments he got for his work.
It is a talent that I'm glad I have now.
