How do you search for a good Motherboard?

We all know that we can determine Processor quality through its processing speed, and the Graphics card through its performance... but what about the motherboard???
And can you guys recommend me a good mofo for these?
Phenom II x4 955
SAPPHIRE HD 6850 1GB GDDR5 PCIE

Find a motherboard that has the right cpu socket (for amd or intel, though you have a phenom x4 so go with AM3) and enough pciE 2.0/2.1 x16 slots for the number of gpu's you want. Also make sure you grab a correctly sized case for your mobo's form factor, though it's usually ATX. Also worth checking for onboard devices unless you want to supply your own pci peripherals, and the max memory/type of ram supported.
On a side note, I used those 2 parts in my first build a while back, they're pretty great when comboed with 4 gigs of ram. Also You'll want an aftermarket heatsink with that CPU, as amd's stock fan sounds like an air turbine.
