How to be a good date for prom?

I'm planning on asking my friend to prom but being socially inept I don't really know what to do when the big day comes. So I'm looking to you guys for tips on how to be a good date. (I'm a guy btw.)

totaly agree with what Maeve said but you might want maybe a boutiniere and for your friend a corsage(you can get them in a flower shop and get them a day early or have them picked up the day before the prom that way they can stay fresh when you put them on cause they gotta stay in the fridge)one that matches her dress color.act as if this were a dte but with out the romantic connotations to it just be a gentleman and maybe take a photo or two

and if you meet her parents for bonus points give them a time you should be back traffic/time to come and go there

and good luck fyi for the one time i went i ended up asking a friend out of the blue and she said yes and it turned out fine

Don't do what I did. I got wicked drunk and fought the guy my ex-girlfriend cheated on me with, broke a table she ended up running from the event and the sheriff's deputy that was there, cutting across downtown Bradenton and ending up at a friend's house. I wasn't planning on going so I used a friend's ticket. According to records I wasn't there, so I avoided trouble for it.

I remember mine...I felt so awkward, but in the end I had an okay time.

Even if your friend doesn't ask, say she looks great. Also, be a gentleman open doors for her and stuff.

Lol I never went to Prom, I left High School sophmore year to home school.

While I never had a date during my 2 proms, I was however able to dance with all my female classmates. I mean that was quite a feat really, they were at least 25, and we were only 15 males in my class by then. The girls were quite amused really as I had a list in hand during the night and crossing each girl's name one by one XD They know by heart that I'm not a player anyway, and I'm in very good terms with them. It helped, that I openly declared my "mission" in class 2 days before the actual event XP

I could tell you that I was tired by the end of the night, having to participate in the actual program as well.

If anything else, just be honest and be sincere with the girl that you want to ask out. Don't expect out of the ordinary to happen, and always be courteous.

I don't see what's the big deal with prom; I didn't even go to my own prom. But yeah, if it's really that important to you and the girl, then make sure to have a good time(don't behave like an idiot and make an ass of yourself). Be prepared to dance, show her your "gentleman" side(offer her a drink, open the door for her, and above all, treat her as a princess... A girl loves being treated as if all your attention was dedicated to her)

Maeve pointed out something important, don't expect to get laid. Just because you're giving her a good time, it doesn't mean that she shall return it... BUT if things somehow lead that way , then by all means, go for it.

If going to the prom is mandatory, then wear your best tux and be yourself.
If you haven't seen the true you yet, then act like a sir.
If all else fails, just eat like a sir. Enjoy the food.

If it ain't mandatory, then don't fucking go. Just buy booze and food for yourself.

Well, I don't have much to say besides what everyone else has been telling you; a corsage that matches her dress would be a really nice detail imo. Try not to leave her alone to go talk to some friend or something, get out that gentleman you've got inside and tell her she looks pretty (even if she's a mess) pro-tip; observe her and try to find one little detail that looks like she spent some time deciding on it, it could be some accessory in her head, or her bracelet, whatever (if you pull this off without sounding gay I believe she will appreciate it).
Oh yeah, if she gets tired of her heels offer her a seat or if you want to take a step further offer her your shoes or something. And if she's got a curfew and is worried about it respect that and get her home at the right time.

Also, most importantly, just relax and have fun with her.~
