I found pictures from the 40's from previous owners

It's pictures of their life in Greece. Seeing the immigration papers, they immigrated here at 1951... They have a lot of pictures. I asked what happened to the previous owners. Turns out, the old couple who owned this house lost their son and daughter in a car accident. The old couple then moved to a retirement home where the old woman died. The old man seems to be in a mental hospital for some issues...
What should i do with these? My parents insist i burn it for them. Is there a better way? I don't think giving this to the old man isn't a very good idea.

Woah... now that is not something that happens all too often...
I don't think you should burn them, though. That's the type of shit someone does not want to loose for a large number of reasons: legal reasons.
Plus, should there be relatives somewhere out there, I'm sure it would mean significantly more to them than it would to an open flame.
Granted, I say this not being the one who would have to make an attempt to find said relatives...
You could try to contact the mental facility and see if they have any contacts on file. That, or just give them the papers to hold onto should someone come to collect his belongings.
Probably the safest bet.

I agree with Xil.I think you should keep them, and probably contact the institution. My romantic side believes he could be happy seeing the pictures, and maybe it could calm him a bit, but, being rational, if he has a condition triggered by all that happened, it could make things worse, or at least make him feel bad. Longing sucks, and loosing the people you love the most over the years hurts a lot.
Anyway, as Xil said, call the institution, explain the situation and maybe ask them for an opinion too.

Use a phone book or call the operator. No reason to burn them, the owners may want them and it isn't like there is anyway to reproduce them if you find you someone needs them later. However, hearing that story would make me a bit creeped out and make me want to get rid of them as fast as possible.

in the attic in a old wallet stuffed with pictures in a box. Also with bazillion birthday cards... for some 2 year old. But the pictures are all nice though, really old but brand new. They all look happy. (tryin to comfort myself, Damn you Neko!)

Mod Note: I received a report indicating that this thread might be suitable for the Incoherent Babbling section, but after reading through the replies, I believe it should remain in Random.
Getting back on topic, like what others have mentioned, the ideal scenario would be one where you are able to pass all the items back to their original owners, or at least the next-of-kin. Otherwise, you could contact the relevant authorities for further information or help. I am not too sure how your local government functions.

I bet that box is like a deathnote. If you put a picture inside, the person dies. I lol'ed so hard. It's such a cruel joke, though D:
(Just to test out neko-chan's theory, put a picture of George W. Bush and see what happens. Or Sarah Palin.)

Excellent idea. The problem is, i have no idea where that damned institution is...Try asking to older tenants, or to the person which gave you the information about that family's story in the first place. If not, ask your local notary or police.
Also, there's no need to get freaked out over it, they're just pictures. I'm prety sure none of them will try to haunt you ;p
