My computer is a HP pavillion desktop and I'm having some trouble with the sound card and the Disk Drive. I just recently bought a new Seagate 7200 RPM 500GB SATA hard drive. After installing it and having a friend hook me up with Windows XP, I spent all of yesterday online DLing updates and getting up to speed. Now the problems are this:
For some reason, my disk drive will not load my discs. I have tried to install WoW, but it will not load whereas it normally autoruns. I can put a cd in and it will read it, but not a dvd. As for the sound card, I can not hear a thing, aside from the occasional beep from the onboard speaker. I tried running Windows Media Center and playing a sample music, but it comes back saying there is not a sound card. Device Manager shows a yellow exclamation point next to "Audio Device on High Definition Audio Bus" and when I click properties, it says the drivers are not installed, yet when I try to install from the net, it fails.
I have been told that the Disk drive could be the same issue of not having the correct driver, but I have tried installing them with little success. I kept getting the "you are not logged in as an admin" message, despite being the Admin on my computer(like it makes a difference when you own your computer).
My computer's specs
Also one last thing, although I really don't think this has anything to do with it. My computer is currently using the onboard graphics chipset, but prior to this message it was running off of a EVGA geForce 8600 GT graphics card. I had to remove it to fix my screen resolution, but I think I may write that off as a XP service pack issue. Just threw it out there in case it may have messed up my sound card.
Thanks again everyone.
Edit:I have fixed the DVD player, but I am concerned about why it still will not autorun my WoW discs. That and I have never seen it labeled as "DVD-RAM". Still no sound though, even after installing CCCP.

Somewhere in the pile of stuff that came with your computer is a cd marked "Utilities"
Hidden in there are the dvd drivers and sound card
Its a pain but you have to click on Explore and look for them
If you have lost the cd I am sure you can order it from HP
hope that helps
