Install VN's on Zorin
0
Hello
At this moment my computers hd has crashed with most of my stuff :/ so i had to use a backup computer until i get the new parts for it, and now im getting bored and trying install a visual novel, however i've encountered some problems.
I did figure how out how to mount the iso in the terminal after many tests and fails xD but does someone know how to change the system language to japanese so i can actually install/play games?
whenever i start to install a game it works fine until around midway where i get a lot of gibberish letters in an ugly warning window that basically says yhis system cannot read characters bla bla.
oh and im using Zorin OS 6 version"precise"
I got a few ideas im gonna try out later, but if someone knows a method that works i would be thankful :)
edit: If you dont know what Zorin is, its basically a revamped linux system

I assume you're using wine so have you tried this?
edit: that project seems to be dud, you could try LC_ALL="ja_JP" though

Alright, i've tried your method and when nothing really happened i looked up the code in google and found this site and did everything from start to finish, in an attempt to make the characters visible.
After this i had a restart of the computer and mounted the image as before, it looked exactly the same as before but i went ahead and tried to install it nontheless and i got the same error when i got to around 27%
Error
hell, maybe it isnt the characters that are a problem, but when i installed this game the first time then i had no problems and the characters showed properly.

Clearly something went wrong locale wise if you still aren't seeing the japanese text however. You've ensured that ja_JP.UTF-8 UTF-8 and ja_JP.EUC-JP EUC-JP locales are enabled using the ubuntu directions, and are launching the installer file using LC_ALL=ja_JP wine + pathname right?

They should be enabled as when i used this cmd to check if it was installed, but i dont know if its supposed to look like this so i cant promise its operational, i dont know how to check that.
sudo dpkg-reconfigure locales
Then i get a long list of installed locales and in the middle of all it says
ja_JP.EUC-JP...up-to-date
ja_JP.UTF-8...up-to-date
And i launched the install program with the code
LC_ALL=ja_JP wine "/home/mike/virtual-drives/1/startmenu.exe"
and the first thing that opens is the install window that looks like this
Or did i do someting wrong?

The last check would to be if you have the japanese fonts installed in the ~/.wine/drive_c/windows/Fonts directory.

No japanese fonts here in that dirthen you probably need to download and copy the MS Gothic, MS UI Gothic, and MS Mincho to that folder.

Alright, i've found mincho and MS gothic and after a few tries i finally managed to install it (stupid root) but the last one was trickier to get hold of.
Edit: Forget it found the last one after asking a friend to send it and now i'll try and see if it works or not
edit2: Same problem, but oh well i guess my technical knowledge is too limited in this case. Might as well wait until my real computer is back, only half a week more.
