Is DOSBox needed to play copies of older PC games?

My question is simple. Do I need DOSbox to play older pc games such as Duke Nukem or Doom.

Unless someone ported them and you are using a NT operating system which doesn't have DOS (2000, XP, Vista, 7) you will need DOSBox to play them.

I do have XP so I will need it then?
