Is it too Late to start?
0
Hey guys,
I want your opinion on something about my future. My plan is/was to become a filmmaker or work on a set of a film or music video. However my plan took an odd direction and now I'm instead focusing to do acting.
In January I'm going to start attending an acting academy and apply for various extra/supporting role. Now although I've done drama in the past when I was in school it was a long time ago and I've been wondering if Its too late to start.
My professor in Uni gave me an exercise to improve my ability to understand film. So he told me to do a little bit of acting but now I'm actually quite interested in it again and planning to pursue it - maybe as an addition to my film making.
So really the real question is - Is it too late to start taking acting lesson and actually pursue some sort of career in it.

I'd stick to what you're currently doing, finish it, then continue into film-making if you are still interested. In a practical perspective it's more prudent than otherwise, but in an inspired perspective my suggestion could seem dull.

I'm unfamiliar with the acting scene, but...
As a performer/instrumentalist, I'm constantly trying to better myself and compete with others for lead parts. (Though were I am, the level of skill amongst instrumentalists is relatively low so I'm already sitting near the top of the ladder.) I mainly play piano and alto saxophone. I realize that the world outside of my school is tough and vast. I could be replaced in an instant so I had to improve myself. I'm currently learning doubles at the moment, specifically Bb clarinet and flute, and maybe bassoon. Piano and saxophone I've been studying for a big portion of my life but until university have I been trying to take it seriously.
I have a friend who discovered Jazz our freshmen year and immediately took off with it, studying it all the time and became completely competent with improvisation within a 2 semesters. Before he came here, he was already a great pianist and okay clarinet player. He also picked up the saxophone and is adequate at that.
I don't know about you but you stated that you have experience acting.
And so you ask whether or not it's too late to take acting lessons. Your mates may have been studying acting for most of their lives. Compared to the individuals around you, do you think their level of skill is not completely out of your reach within a reasonable amount of time? Can you surpass them?
Just be the best and never settle for okay.
Also you said you want to create films. I want to compose music for them. Maybe we could do something.

Are you unreasonably handsome and fit? If not, consider switching to the comedy scene of acting.
