Neutral Milk Hotel

The quintessential hipster band, I'm really surprised there hasn't been a topic about them. Also if you only know them as "that band with the album cover where the girl has a potato for a face" for shame. A great combination of some heavy guitar, horns, nonsensical lyrics, and somewhat strained vocals; some people treat them as a joke, personally I love them.

I love it when people combine rock with classical instruments.
Never heard of this group until now. I've finally found something new to listen to.

I've listened to the album 5 times.
I can't get into Neutral Milk Hotel for some reason (I'm really trying).

It really isn't for everyone.

In the Aeroplane Over the Sea is a piece of art that shall influence pop culture for decades to come.

Okay, I like the album.
Still not as good as I was told though.

That was my reaction too, give it a few more listen, it really grows on you.

I really wanted to get into them, it's like...folk..I guess..iono, I love the genre and everything I just don't enjoy it, I think it's good but just not for me. It's strange cause I LOVE Beirut and Sufjan Stevens, which is kinda similar, but I can't get into them, even though they are, as you say, the quintessential hipster band

Ha, a few weeks after I typed that I decided it was better than I was told.
It's a grower (or maybe I wasn't paying attention)

I listened to them before the term hipster started circulating which I guess makes me an even bigger hipster..

But yeah it was back when I was exploring the indie scene in highschool as the internet presented it at the time. Quite interesting music and has a way of growing on you like peoplev said.
Sweet comely and the king of carrot flowers 1 are the two I liked the best.

Totally true about being the quintessential hipster band. I remember browsing /mu/ a while back and they were plastered everywhere. I have since fallen in love with the entire album (and band). Jeff Magnum has a good set of lungs on him. I tried to play Two Headed Boy on my guitar not too long ago and damn. Maybe I need to breathe better but color me impressed. Also songs aren't that hard to learn, some are at their basic about 4 chords.

Tracks I like the most were Two Headed Boy and Oh Comely.

Of course it is one of the most essential albums for hipsters, see/mu/ and Pitchfork Media

It's so good though.

I know, it's in my top 10 list of favourite albums.

I gave it a lot of chances but it never grew on me.

I was genuinely surprised to learn that it(Aeroplane Over the Sea) was a cult hit and loved by so many. In some regards it was turned into a sort of meme/joke/whatever by a certain community, but that's fine.

It's probably one my favorite albums of all time.
