I'll be honest I've never looked at hentai before,I have my biases about it, but my partner enjoys it so I want to at least give it a try instead of shutting it down from what I've seen heard that I didn't like.
So I guess I'm asking for advice on where to begin here. And it is worthwhile to try and gain interest because my partner is.
would you be glad your partner is trying to venture out anf gain interest in things you enjoy sexually on our own time. Or is it something you want to be yours alone.

Ideally I'd say just start with some cute vanilla stuff, as it's pretty normal, and usually quite heartwarming.
Could read something with them, assuming they don't go hardcore into the deep end hah.
And yes, it's always awesome to have your partner venture out and try new things instead of condemning you for what you're doing.
Have a look through normal vanilla/ happy sex genres, and go from there. If you don't like it as such, that's all g, you might be able to see the appeal they find in it, and understand more so than before. Should be win win

My partner did try it out too, she doesn't like it as much as I do, but she has been able to see why I like it and shares some of that. Which is great!

Anyway, I think I'd pretty much suggest what the user above said. Start by reading some vanilla, see if you like the art and maybe find it arousing. If you do, the next step would be to maybe read something about kinks that you have yourself in real life (maybe you are into femdom, or bdsm, or anal, or footjobs...).
Last, and only if you were able to enjoy these previous reads, I'd just explore and see some of the weirdest stuff (tentacles, monster girls, maybe loli...) I'm sure this is the stuff you've probably heard of and didn't like, cause it's the image most people have of hentai, sadly. Not because I don't like it myself, just because it's not the whole picture.

Try to find the stuff you like, for example there are some based off games so let's say you like Dragon Quest VIII, find those hentai stories and see if you like them. There are single-shot stories and others are complete long multiple chapter stories. Some are original ideas and others are from franchises.
Most importantly, ALWAYS LOOK AT THE TAGS so you know what you want to read and what you're looking for.
