Photoshop CS6/5 OpenGL crashing
0
I don't usually like being the guy asking for tech support but fuck me this one is driving me insane and I haven't found anyone else sharing the same problem.
Basically Photoshops OpenGL keeps crashing, usually when using an OpenGL feature (rotating, color picker, etc) or straight away when opening larger files or when using large brushes. Once OpenGL has stopped working Photoshop will lag like a bitch and the cursor will appear to flicker across the screen although it maintains its usability. Other effects include poor image previews and I can't use certain features.
Anyone else had this issue? my card is a Gigabyte GTX560 if it matters.
I have tried: 3 different video driver versions, reinstalling Photoshop, reverting back to CS5, trying both x86 and x64 versions, muddling around with graphical settings.

More information should be logged in the Windows Event Viewer.
Start > right-click My Computer > Manage > Event Viewer in the left tree > Windows Logs
Check both the System and Application event logs, select anything you think might deal with the problem and then right-click and select "Save Selected Events" from the context menu, upload the files to a public file server (DropBox, Mediafire, Mega etc.) and post the link.

Sorry for the late response, wow I even reinstalled Windows and it's still happening. I did what you said but the only notable log for PS is "The Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) service entered the running state."
Thanks for the reply btw

Out of curiosity, what driver version are you using for your gpu? I'm using a 660 and any driver post 310 causes me to get some nasty mouse input latency problems after 5 or so minutes in CS6.

314.22, I'll try reverting to something even earlier.
Edit: Fuck me, still going on. Tried the new 320 drivers as well and it's still happening. Another more serious symptom has started occurring as well, whenever I use any sort of transform tool Photoshop freezes... Also I forgot to mention, these problems seem to occur randomly, sometimes they'll happen instantly and sometimes I can work for an hour problem free, it's very unpredictable.

Have you tried rolling back to an older nvidia driver? Maybe version 310.90?Yeah, tried that about five other versions now : (

If that's the case, and you're on a blank windows install with CS6 and it crashes then it's either your hardware being silly or some other intermittent problem. You didn't install anything else before CS6 right?
At this point I'd say you might have better luck asking for help on the Adobe Photoshop forums.

Yo, me again, leaving this message here for anyone else who runs into the same bullshit. The problem was Trillian's game mode, it was treating Photoshop as a fullscreen application and for some reason this made OpenGL crash which in turn seemed to mess with other parts of Photoshop.
It looked as if the two applications were battling with each other constantly, like Trillian kept on trying to get the chat to work.
