just recently i having a powering off problem on my laptop. Everything works perfectly fine except the fact that when i try to power down nothing seem to happen. I tried searching online for solution but none have similar problem as i do cause
1- i didn't install any new update or any program in recently( there was non to begin with)
2- it was working b4 yesterday
3- i tried to find if i have the program of what the forum told me but didn't help either
can anyone help? cause the last thing is restore back but that what i try to avoid at all cost! can anyone help? the only way i manage to shut down so far are
1-pull out the plug
2- emergency shut down...
I'm currently running on window XP professional I don't know anything else that might effect this.

Try closing all your applications first before you shutdown. Also close all the background applications like your antivirus and other stuff that typically hide in the system tray by the clock. Right-click the taskbar and select task manager and in the process tab sort it by user name. Everything under your currently logged-in user name can be right-clicked and end process'd without any harm being done. Don't end the explorer process as that is the Windows UI process and you won't have any windows or the taskbar if you do.
If you do all that and the computer shuts down fine then one of those programs is causing the problem and needs to be fixed or uninstalled off of your computer. Its just trial and error after that for figuring out which one. If you still have problems then its most likely an operating system issue and you should run chkdsk on your hard drive and hope it fixes it. To do that open up "my computer" and right-click the "C:" drive and go to properties. In the tools tab choose "Check now..." under "Error Checking" and check both things and hit start. If that doesn't fix it then you may have to reinstall. You can also try running CCleaner and using its built in registry checker to spot problems. Good luck!
