This really surprised me a lot, I was not expecting to see something like this ever from Sum 41.

I'm not gonna discuss if Sum 41 is punk or not(I'd say the once was, but they changed over time, as did Dwarves, just saying ) but I'm gonna throw in some quality punk music in this thread.
70's punk > later punk.
And for the actual topic: That cover was surprisingly good. ;O

Wow kinda surprised me as well, as someone whos not a sum41 fan im kinda astonished that the cover was actually more my taste than metallica, im neither a fan of them but this is one of their best known songs and its quite good actually, whats even more surprising is the fact that they had the skills to play it :S all songs ive heard from sum41 were kinda simple and chord based :O

Sum 41 is what I like to call "heavy metal influenced punk rock" this song is proof.

I'm going to be polite and not rail against Sum 41 as the troll in me so badly wants to do. I take it you don't know anything about crust or thrashcore or especially grindcore.
The lines of punk and metal often blur, but I can assure you Sum 41 is far away from metal. OK, given my music tastes it'd be stupid to play genre nazi as music can often defy classification. I'm tired.

I know Sum 41 isn't metal they just have a bit of a metal edge to some of their stuff, Also I listen to bands like DRI and the misfits so I can tell the difference between punk and thrashcore. I don't really know much about grindcore though because the closest stuff to grindcore I even listen to is Sadus but they are a thrash metal band that uses a lot of blast beats in their music. To make myself clear I'll explain this as good as I can; Sum 41 is a punk rock band not a metal band but they do have some metal influences but that does not make their music metal since it's not the dominant genre they play. Their sound has also been categorized as "Melodic hardcore" but I think that only applies to certain songs in their discography.
