I've been using cheap genius mouse for a while now. It has some deadzone issues, but I could live with that.
What drives me nuts is that the mouse wheel works erratically. I can't properly scroll with it, as after spinning it more than a couple of clicks it suddenly reverses scrolling direction, and starts "stuttering" back-and-forth.
I've had (and still have but don't use) and older mechanical mouse from A4tech that didn't have such issues, so that's my meter stick on what's "good enough".
(Ironically said mouse used an optical sensor for its mouse wheel, while - from what I can tell having pulled this one apart this one uses a mechanical sensor for the mouse wheel).
Recommend me a cheap, optical/laser mouse that won't drive me nuts!

I have never had a single bad experience with a Logitech mouse, and I have had a few now since because of multiple computers and just wanting the newest and best. I have never had a single problem, while I have had bad experiences with practically all other manufactures (among others: Microsoft, Lenovo, and Dell)

you have the same stuttering problem with the mousewheel too, flaser?
It used to drive me crazy. couldnt even scroll down a single page without it going back up on me, and for zooming on certain MMOs, and moving up down my documents it was absolutely horrible.
the current mouse im using is this one:
linky
its a good, reliable mouse. hasnt failed me yet since i bought it several months ago. im not sure if amazon ships where you are, but this is a good mouse to have, at least in my opinion. ive also dropped it several times since i do travelling business certain months, which require me and my laptop to be on the go. still works fine.
if youre looking for flair and style though, im afraid this mouse is a bit lacking.

The Iconoclast

Razor Mamba, has been a fantastic mouse. Wireless, laser, recharge dock is also the wireless dock so you cant break it off your computer. You can even plug the USB charger into the mouse if you forget to charge the thing. Sleek design and a very useful "on the fly" speed control.
Now before I get flamed over the price of a mouse like this you have to understand that something like the Mamba will last for 10+ years while cheaper gear will get trashed pretty easily.
(As a side note you wont find a laser mouse for under $70)

+1 for this one. It's the one I get for everyone I build computers for. Does the job fine for almost everything. Although you can also get the microsoft equivalent if this comment bothers you. Both will probably have an 800dpi led 2 buttons, a good scrollwheel and be wired.

What price range are you look for and are u willing to wait for a sale? Mouses goes on sale quite often.
If ur just looking for a cheap mouse with nothing fancy, here is one at a decent price http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?nm_mc=AFC-SlickDeals&cm_mmc=AFC-SlickDeals-_-NA-_-NA-_-NA&Item=N82E16826146009
Also it currently has a 5$ rebate so total would come to ~14(after rebate) including shipping/tax.( http://images10.newegg.com/uploadfilesfornewegg/rebate/SH/GIGABYTE6MIRsDec1Dec3110ll97.pdf?nm_mc=AFC-SlickDeals&cm_mmc=AFC-SlickDeals-_-NA-_-NA-_-NA )
If u are willing to wait, u can possibly get that m518 logitech mouse in the low 20s. Slickdeals.net is a great place to get updates on good deals on pretty much anything.

Thanks for the tips, so I finally bought this (the first thing that came my way and was among the recommended brands):

...and lo and behold! My mouse wheel finally works! ...and the added precision is a bonus.
