Relay for Life is an event held all over America in different locations where thousands of people get together to raise money to help find a cure for cancer.
I'm going to be attending a 2 day event in May at a track field where my coworkers and I will spend the day doing various events. At night we light luminaries to honor those who have survived cancer, and remember those who have lost their lives to it.
Thousands of people will be lighting luminaries and they'll light them up at night where it ends up lighting up the whole football field.
This is a luminary:
If you want to donate (even if it's just a dollar) you can click this link:
http://main.acsevents.org/site/TR/RelayForLife/RFLFY10SA?px=15362393&pg=personal&fr_id=24382
You don't have to donate, and I don't expect a lot of people to, but you can post here if you know anybody who fought against cancer and survived or even people in your lives who have died from cancer.
My mom survived Thyroid cancer, but still battles various other diseases. She's a tough woman and I love her very much, even if we can get on each others nerves sometimes. So I'll be sure to light a luminary for her at the event.

I've had an elderly family member die of carcinoma; he fought valiantly for a year to get his affairs in order then passed away quietly.
Condolences to anyone else who has been through shit diseases, or knows someone who did.

Granduncle. I'm studying biology right now. Maybe one day I'll join the fight on cancer as well. Now there's a war everybody can support...

My Grandfather (mother side), passed away from Stage 4 cancer on 2004.
Dammit, why isn't science advancing fast enough to stop it?

Cancers annoys me, or should I say the doctors annoyed me by making fuss about SOOO many things being carcinogenic substances. I wish that pest could dissapear from the world.

Donate money or time to a cancer research foundation or lab. They could use the help. There have been advances in treatment of cancer itself, but much of it is still in development.
One I heard of is this new substance, that's almost like an metal ball of sort that is bound to antibodies. The antibody attach itself to the antigen, in this case cancer cells, and the microscopic metal ball with it. Then, a weak electromagnetic radiation, much like microwave, is aimed at the patient with the antibody/ball injected, and the radition causes the metal ball to heat up due to motion, which kills the cancer cells it is attached to. Because the way antibodies work, this new treatment process could automatically goes out by itself and attach to all the cancer cells in the body, and then kill it all in one go, curing the cancer. This treatment, should it work, could potentially reverse a terminal stage 4 cancer with relatively low to no side affects at all.
Of course, this is still in the works, and the precise treatment, should the antibody/ball complex work as intended, is still being worked out experimentally. There's still technical development, petri-dish experimentation, animal trials, human trials, and loads of red tape to get through. Just letting you guys know the current progress... XD
Oh, and this is like 2009, so old news. Maybe they're at the animal trial stage already. Who knows? Anybody got links?
