"Vous devez formatter le disque du lecteur H:"
In english, "you must format your hard disk before use"
The fourth in 3 years KMN... I'm seriously thinking about buying online storage space, could anybody tell me how reliable it really is ?

Right now I'm down to one HDD of 1TB which is almost full. If there is any chance of saving my data from the damaged HDD I'll need a new one. So, going your way, I'd have to buy 2 HDDs of 2TBs each, one for retrieval of my data, the other for back up. That's pretty pricey already if you ask me...

If you have cash to burn (which I doubt in this economy) consider purchasing a NAS. I have an 8TB NAS. It is pretty much your own online personal cloud. However.........the price tag is enormous. In total nearly $1000

I see, thanks for the info. But yea, it is pretty interesting but that would be something I'd have to save money on a long time period before I buy it. And right now, I'm already saving for a trip in Japan so... But I'll probably need something like that sooner or later so I'll just enjoy my trip, start saving for this later and hope for the price to go down in something like 2 years from now.

1tb externals and internals are pretty cheap these days. $70~ for one here, which would be like $50 there.

Are you sure it's REALLY broken? I mean, there are cases that the connections are just loose.Yea I know. But just in case, I tried with other HDD's cables, and it still didn't work. Anyway, I'm going to a pro this week to check if it's really done, and if it is, to see if I can still get my data back.

I'm going to buy two of them, no problem. But the point is, I don't know what it is I do wrong but I just seem to destroy them all (It's like my mom, she has the superpower to render any electronic device unusable by simple touch... serious). At least, I can't touch it if it's entirely digital, which lessens the risks. I'd prefer a HDD just like I prefer true books to ebooks, but I just can't risk loosing 5 years worth of manga/anime/music/work/(and of course)hentai.

France to be exact. Didn't know it was a particularly expensive region but well, doesn't surprise me u_u

I would try to see how much it would cost to import a hard drive or two from somewhere else to see if that would be any cheaper. You can usually avoid tariffs and whatnot if you have a friend overseas "gift" it to you.

Rather than buying one for 70euro I'd take a look at these or if you chose online storage I once read this article and I'd chose Blackblaze(fast download/upload sppeds)[/h] but that's just me. You can search online for other backup services(crashplan seems nice too)[/h].

And I do know a few friends abroad but I have no idea when they might come by here... but I'm not sure that's what you meant by "gift".

If it's about bargains, second-hand and all that, I prefer being able to touch the thing with my own hands before buying it, so no to your first option.
Backblaze on the contrary looks pretty f*cking cool though. I'm going to look into it a bit more but thanks for the lead.

Gift is when they write on back of the package(i.e hdd) that what's inside is a gift for someone instead of a merchandise - this is done to avoid custom fees since they tend to be somewhat of an unwanted extra payment :P.

Blackblaze is preety cool in my opinion and who knows I might get into it myself after some time.
I used to be very skeptic about eBay myself in the beginning but it turned out to be a good site since I've bought 100+ items from there and except for a couple of cheap ass(2-4$) Chinese stuff everything else has been good. Heck, I prefer to buy online than buying at the local shops for X1.5 the price :) But still that's just me. still I encourage you to try to buy at least something cheap just to see if it will arrive safely/properly.[/h]
