Running vs Swimming

Swimming is more of an option for me in my current situation (strange, I know). What I would like to know is how much more do I have to swim to equal a run? Is it vice versa? And what method(s) of swimming should I use for best results?

I think you are confused good sir. It is actually vice versa. Swimming burns far more calories than running does. In fact swimming is the best aerobic exorcise you can possibly do. Its the only one that completely engages your entire body, every muscle. It also works wonders on your cardio.
Running, though very effective and my personal exercise of choice since i run competitively does not burn as many calories as swimming.
My question is what are you trying to do? Lose weight? Gain muscle mass? Burn cals?
If your trying to burn as many calories as possible then swimming will burn more in a shorter amount of time. The type of swimming best would probably be freestyle or butterfly. These 2 strokes happen to engage your body the most. Typically in my experience people find butterfly stroke to be wayyyyy harder than the others as it requires near perfect form and a strong upper body (specifically shoulders and back). Freestyle is one that everyone can do but few can do well. Those two are probably your best options. Either way you will definitely feel the burn!

I was hoping it would be vice versa. I am "conditioning" for now. So burning some fat and building muscle. I'm taking boxing this summer and afterwards Wing Chun. So I don't want to work out the wrong muscles. For now it's just burning and slight overall build. I'm actually quite ecstatic to hear that swimming is very effective. I'm from Florida so weather is advantageous. I also have easy access to a pool. And swimming is not as damaging to the knees. Thank you so much. +1 for ya.
Edit: Excellent avatar. Great Manga, decent anime.

no worries :D. Thanks :D. I'm more of a fan to the manga. I love Ohgreat. He's so random though haha.
with swimming you shouldn't worry about building too much muscle. you'll more so lean out and get ripped strong muscle so you should be ok.
