2. black & white gradient is a no-no. Grab some nice effect or abstract C4Ds instead

Adobe Photoshop, find one.

Also, for ideas for the background, I checked some pictures of Chie in Gelbooru and it seems like many artists draw a orange or yellow background for her. But I suggest you to browse through at least few pages of her pictures in 'booru and see if you can get any ideas from there.

3. Can use the background, if you know how to edit and make it look better. I started just the same thing on my signatures, but then edit it to look nicer.

Like Kuro said- Filter and texture is your best friend when it comes to signature making.

3. Youtube has many amazing tutorial that can help you easily, you'll get to used to it, and when you have master it, you can try to mix two different tutorial to make it look nice.
