Because they're not content on dying alone. If they're going to suffer the pain of death, of losing life, why not cause some other people to suffer with them.
I can conclude a multitude of reasons why. It varies depending on what kind of person. If the culprit is the kind of person who had a difficult life, it could be that they indiscriminately blame other people for their hardships, and feel that before they put an end to they're suffering, that they need to cause a bit for others... This would be my initial conclusion with absolutely no more information than the title of the link.

That's because they consider fighting to put out a message to the world that they somewhat exist. Some shooters prefer 'suicide by cop' where they are hoping to be killed by law enforcement or they will kill themselves before being judged. Conditions and motives vary for every shooting but most of the time it's people who are either pushed to the limit or they have had a rough upbringing/deformity that twisted their perspective on reality. Media plays a role, there has been a hoax of Morgan Freeman being quoted on saying the following which I think deserves a read:

Maybe if its non transferable class. I can't say really. Depends on state and fed. Were able to possess because law enforcement and military are exempt from restrictions if granted from the dept of justice or our dept if your a police or peace officer. Shit I sure if I was still in the service I could get me .50 M82. Of course that also limited also... you need a reason that valid enough to buy an automatic.
