As long as it doesn't promote violence (like terrorism) then no. Thats why we have a first amendment.

Gov wants.. but wouldn't happen. There censorship everywhere now... we just call it being PC and Protecting the kids from Huck Finn saying nigger to a guy named nigger Jim. We banned books, movies and thoughts in the pass with the vie of protecting our people from the red commie ideology. The catholic church banned people from seeing a movie, reading outside of the maned text and free thought.. we just all it traditional religious authority. Works of literature like Lolita, Nineteen Eighty-Four and Lady Chatterley's Lover were all once banned even the free country like...The US.
It not against the law. Censorship has a cleaver cover story for it existence.. it called local standards and morals via censorship boards by the county.. the exorcist is banned in the uk and a small shitburg in Georgia for puke, masturbation with a cross and scary shit. the government censors a lot of stuff.. most because we vote the law in like here where it illegal to cook horse meat or the banned on CP... 99% of the time they just wanna push a politician idea on what he think should be allowed... if we followed that logic then i and a good part of the world would of been killed and enslave for not being white or a pure race.
I personally don't think anything should be banned unless it a civil volition on human morality like fucking kids and dogs.

I don't remember where I read this, and I'm pretty sure whomever wrote it was blowing it out there butt, but it pretty much boiled down to the Republican party wanting to ban certain words, scenarios and other things on tv, internet and radio.
Pretty dumb, but I think that if it has any grain of truth, a lot of people would vote for it.

Ah censorship. The memories of the early 90's when a lot of ISPs banned access to alt.suicide.holiday and related usenet groups.

That's against freedom of press.
As shown in Rex v John Peter Zengar Zonvolt, the press that smite's evil.

They can't. Unless it's like child pornography, it ruins the First Amendment which is freedom of speech, religion, etc.

Technically speaking, censorship is illegal. However, the balls are in the court of big corporations.
The reason that Comcast, Time Warner, AT&T and other internet and phone providers get away with as much as they do is because of the huge lobbying power they have over the government. Until, private donations, and perhaps even lobbying groups (grassroots included) are banned in this country then this will continue to be a problem.
The Executive and Legislative branches of this country depend too heavily on the monetary donations of lobbying groups (Communications and Electronics being the fourth biggest in terms of lobbying expenditures). So, if these groups want a certain something done, regardless of whether or not it skirts the boundaries of the law, the government isn't willing to go against their wishes.
Only the Judicial branch has a chance of fighting against these actions because they do not benefit, at least not directly from said lobbying expenditures. However, Separation of Powers in this country is a bust because we give far too much power to the Legislative Branch, and they can easily override the Courts if needed.

The Government - here to protect you for yourself.
I love it when U.S and all the other Western "Democracies" talk about freedom-this, freedom-that and finger-point at various regimes, while all sorts of censorship shit is going down in their backyards (that blacklist bill, anyone? The Patriot Act?).
But at the same time, they can't get them all.
It also still amazes me that governments have the time to do this.

True enough, as long as people can express their opinion, or protest against a bad law, there is no true, or at least complete censorship.
And it is principally very hard to suppress people if they are really bothered with something, as USSR eventually found out.
I still do think that Western powers should occasionally try to look themselves into the mirror and see if they aren't becoming the monster they are fighting. If only for "good" intention.
