So I'm going to Tokyo soon
0
In 3 days I'll finally be heading to Tokyo for 2 weeks. I've been looking around the internet a little bit to see what random things I can do there, but I feel like the Fakku! members can help me better.
So help me create a bucket-list or any suggestions for me to do while I'm there. All I really have planned is this:
-wander around
-go to a maid cafe
-spend an unhealthy amount of time in Akihabara
-go to various shrines
-eat REAL ramen
-wander around some more
Its a short list but these are my main things to do, any suggestions crazy or small would be great!

Here's a joke list:
-Go and do some molesting to women on trains.
-Go and punch some random dude on the street, preferably while others are watching.
-Go and eat someone's cat. I heard they taste like chicken.
-Hit on every unattractive woman you see, and reject the really sexy ones(if you get any).
-Go and eat dog shit. Actually, no, don't. I heard it tastes like shit.
But no, here's the real list now:
-Buy some manga.
-Buy some festival clothing, like a yukata.
-Buy some anime.
-Learn Japanese, if you haven't already.
-Buy a sword, preferably a katana.
-Learn the laws of Japan, if you haven't already.
-Speak formally to everyone you meet. It's respectful in Japan.
-Eat real food. No, not convenience store food, or ramen, although those are good to try too while you're there... I mean, real home cooking from a Japanese person/family. If you get a chance.
-Visit a family restaurant. Make sure to leave a good tip - 25-30% if possible.
-Convert your USD into Yen, if you haven't already.
-Buy some Visual Novels.
-Stay at a love hotel, just to say you were there.
-And much, much more! I will update if I think of anything else.

I live in Tokyo. In Shibuya actually. And everything everyone's said so far will drain your wallet so fast you will be gone in 3 days. Let me tell you why:
-real yukatas cost at least, like, $150. You can get cheap shit ones for like $40.
-katanas...duh they're expensive
-Tokyo is different from the rest of Japan so you can get away with being American for the most part with young people
-there's no sales tax or tipping in Japan. don't even do a voluntary tip they don't take it (these are actually good things for your wallet)
-maid cafes are actually pretty expensive too--it's about $10 to get in, then the food is around $20-$40 depending, but still go to at least one--I don't disagree
-run-of-the-mill love hotels are at least $70 for only a half an hour or so and if you go over the time limit you have to pay another $50
-soap lands are just as, if not more, expensive than love hotels, probably adding up to over $100 depending on what you want them to do to you
Anyway, I know some cool bars around Shibuya and this store in Akihabara that has slightly used figures that are super cheap. My friend got an Asuka figure still in the box for only $10 and you can't even tell the difference from a new one. There's also a normal figure store that's like 5 stories high. Suffice to say, Akihabara is an awesome place in general for geeking out. Oh yeah in terms of train groping, you'd have to go on the subway. I take the train all the time and it's not crowded, but the subway is probably the crowded place.

were you talking about Rajikan in Akiba? it's true it has one store that has all Revoltech figures but sometimes when you want to search some obscure stuffs, you can find some at around the end of Chuo street or at Ura Akiba.even though the prize could get way expensive than you bargained for.
since 623 already gave some tips,i don't have anything to add for now.
but if you wanted to visit Mandarake other than in Akiba, you can go to the one in Nakano since i remembered Jacob were hauling some huge bags full of doujins back when he asked me for being the guide for Winter Comiket last year.
and speaking of Comiket, too bad you can only visit for 2 weeks because if you stayed long enough till August,i can give you some tour during the Comiket......if you have the stamina and can endure the battlefield that is.
it's held at August 10th-12th but if you want to have the Catalog,it'll be on sale from July 20th and if you buy it at Tora no Ana bookstore, you can get some delicious freebies for it.

To be honest I've only been in Tokyo about 4 months so I'm hardly an expert but what I posted is what I've gleaned so far. Admittedly, I've had a lot of free time, but still.

'kay then.
the new Rajikan was quite smaller than it used to be.i used to get lost in it once and they have more variety of the stores inside the building before they renovated it.
you're working here or studying?
my place is near chiba but i'm pretty much walking around in akiba almost everyday since my College is located hardly next town to it(it used to be in the building in front of Gundam Cafe).
i only goes to Harajuku and Shibuya if i need to buy some new clothes and Shinjuku,Ikebukuro & Roppongi for watching movies.
yep......i hardly goes outside my "territory" in almost 5 years now.lol.

Workin'. Sort of. It's a weird and long story. I might have to move from Tokyo depending on how things play out or idk. But, yeah, I'm working.

lol I can understand that to a certain extent. I have no real desire to go to northern Tokyo.

Heey, that's neat. I heard there's a Lucky Star shrine somewhere in Japan, though I'm not sure if it was in Tokyo. Also someone told me that porn stores can be huge there. Are you going on a vacation or is it some other business? Do you know someone local or are you staying in a hotel?

DID SOMEONE SAY OSAKA?

If your going to Nippon banzai!, you must get a traveler's week train pass. 300 USD but it's so fucking worth it and it will save your ass on expenses. Not only can use it locally(in Tokyo), but you can use it on the shinkansen (bullet trains). Since your Tokyo, it will be the East JR lines for you.
If you get this pass, you can visit Kyoto. You must absolutely visit Gion for geishas. Also, while I didn't go there, you can also visit a museum dedicated to Osamu Tezuka, though I don't know where in Kyoto.
Don't forget to visit the Pavilions and the Kiyomizudera and the Toji.
Ths sight from Kiyomizudera is fucking wondrous, and would have been better had I gone inbetween march and april.
Oh, and visit the Fushimi Inari Taisha. It's the big place with the really long row of Torii. The scene there is quite something to behold there too.
If you want something a little more peaceful and rural, visit Mt. Hiei. Bit of a local travel, you can find the locals playing around a small river at the base of the mountain. Cooling off there isn't a bad idea in the summer.
While I haven't explored Osaka fully, you should get the chance to.
Had you gone in early August(2 weeks stay ne?), just like what FOG said you could've gone to Comiket. Almost all the doujin is cheap. But all the corporate merchandise is fucking expensive (DAMN YOU TYPE-MOON! SOLD OUT OR THEIR SHIT!).
And like I told zeroniv, there's a matsuri(festival) that goes on in Asakusa.
This is only if you go early august.

Also if you go to get some good Sushi ask the chef for Chinpo Shouyu... it a better grade soy sauce which is great with fish.

I enjoyed going up the Sky Tree at night, the view was very breathtaking.
Though I'm not sure whether you're the type who likes to admire sceneries and panoramas?

I've been to Japan (But never went ashore). But then, they handed us some pamphlets that pretty much sums up:
-Let small fishes such your feet
-Eat some street food
-Ride a bullet train
-Ride a ferris wheel (Its near yokohama or somewhere)
And yeah. Save money. LOTS OF 'EM. When I found out that the transpo cost itself is expensive (Like tramways from port to city), I refused to go out.
