Steubenville High's Football 'Rape Crew'

In an Ohio town of Steubenville a 16 year old female was raped at a party by Trent Mays and Malik Richmond. The victim was urinated on, sodomized, and raped by several students. "Richmond was behind her, with his hands between her legs, penetrating her with his fingers, a witness said," reported the The Times. The victim was not aware of rape, but found out because of twitter, instagram, and other social media sources. However, because of the town's emphasis on football and the alleged perpetrators were football players several people blame her for the rape,

"The rape was just an excuse, I think," said the 27-year-old Hubbard, who is No. 2 on the Big Red’s career rushing list.

"What else are you going to tell your parents when you come home drunk like that and after a night like that?” said Hubbard, who is one of the team’s 19 coaches. "She had to make up something. Now people are trying to blow up our football program because of it."

Some believe there may have been a cover up because the coaches did not bench or view what their players had done anything wrong and the sheriff and coach are friends. Thanks to anonymous they have leaked information such as video, images, and information,which has brought allowed this story to gain attention and to help the victim. Thoughts?

I think that if those football players are stupid enough to rape a passed out underage girl, that is insanely irrisponsible. To video it and put it on the internet, is so fucking stupid I lack the words to express my thoughts right now. What the hell is that poor girl gonna do, total humiliation.

I don't think "irresponsible" covers it. They are quite responsible, for a heinous crime, in fact.


I am more than happy their horrid deeds are being punished to the fullest (well, at least something... we all know how easy most rapist actually get off, with so little jail time) extent of the law.

personally i think they should all be kicked out of the school. all the people who participated in the rape that is. if they had eyewitnesses i dont see how they can blame that person, especially if she was drunk at the time. Then again if she was drinking she kind of got her karma, i dont like refering to it like that but she learned he rlesson so the rapists should get the same.

This like that rape case in India, the one where the six guys raped her, then shoved an iron rod into her. And slightly similar, the authorities asked her not to report it. One policeman even tried to convince her to marry one of the guys who raped her.

This world's going to hell real quick, with such sick bastards around.

As to the case in India (merely one of many there getting publicity atm, thank goodness at last), the woman committed suicide because in general, authorities did not care.


People say first world cities and places don't have these problems, and that is a lie.

i suppose i came ill equipped to this conversation. i did not know that she had been roofied. in that case i relinquish her blame.

also i dont know who says first world places dont have these kinds of problems, because america is pretty first world and it happens ALL THE TIME. and sadly usually you see things like this where she ends up being the one to blame no matter what the other people did. It's stupidity in one of its crowning moments

I'm not sure where I stand with Anonymous now. Sometimes they screw me over, like the PSN outage. Other times they actually do stuff worth while, like this.

And this story is just horrible. I always felt that athletes got special privileges in High School. In this backwards town living in bizarro world, they can literally get away with rape, even when the evidence is pretty damning. Adults can get away with continually dehumanizing the victim without any repercussions. I don't get it. And all of the witnesses are hiding (refusing to come forward) all to protect themselves against possible retaliation by their peers.

It's such a disgusting cycle. The only way to disrupt it is for outside forces to intervene. The mass media needs to get on this story bronto. Those coaches need to be fired immediately, and those players need to go to jail.

This story made me feel bad.

In my own point of view, the girl was (well, maybe) drugged or something to not remember such a thing. Even though she probably controlled her alcohol intake, it is inevitable that someone might have put some sleeping drug to her drink so that she wouldn't be conscious and would not a chance of waking up for some period of time.

On the other hand, the football players were not responsible enough to control themselves from making contact with the girl. Or even cautioning their comrade.

Even though the girl is said to be some kind of a whore, it's not right to fuck someone without their consent, especially when they are unconscious.

Yes, I have read several stories on hentai doujins and stuff. But this story, IRL? It's just. Fucked up.

There are many places in this world where people have little to no morals at all. Very dissapointing, saddens me to see such irrisponsible behavior.

I dunno, after the whole "legitamate rape" comment that one guy made on tv, I highly doubt that such people will be punished to the full extent of the law.

Hopefully they do, and that the people of the town realize that bringing justice is much more important than football. Also the girl being drunk doesn't excuse anything. I thought they taught this in schools. Apparently not in this one.

She was roofied, it is presumed by authorities. After one drink en route to a party, one would not be completely black-out drunk (and unable to remember anything after getting in the car and being handed a drink) to that extent unless there was a drug involved.

On a more serious note I've heard stories like this before, including one at my high school. Girl accused guy of raping her. Turned out she actually gave consent beforehand. Rape is a tricky issue and I generally don't like taking sides. Granted, there are cases where the rape is undeniable and the rapist is completely at fault (i.e. India rape incident).
Bottom line: Rape is bad. (Except maybe in Hentai)

Um, one can retract consent at any point during sex (not after, of course, though)... and according to who did she consent?

I'm not entirely sure of what happened. I HEARD she herself admitted she gave consent. Whether it was through the school/authorities finding a hole in her 'rape story' or she just later confessed I don't know. Didn't really pay much attention.
