The Afterman: Ascension (Coheed and Cambria)

Okay, so I feel like an idiot who had no idea Coheed and Cambria's new album, The Afterman: Ascension was released today. I just randomly checked Zune Pass and saw that it was just released today. So, I immediately downloaded it and am listening to it. So far, it's amazing. I love Key Entity Extraction I: Domino the Destitute. Here's to hoping the rest of the album is just as amazing.
Back to the basics of the thread. This is a thread to discuss about Coheed and Cambria's music ranging from the beginning of it's life to now (you can also talk about the Prize Fighter Inferno if you want to).
Some of my favorites from Coheed and Cambria:

I don't know what you're talking about.Did I not explain it well enough? I made about Coheed and Cambria and was shocked to find out that their new album was released today. In reaction, I made a Coheed and Cambria thread.

Now I just feel bad, sorry. Anyways, they're a progressive rock band that writes their songs based off the storyline the lead singer writes called the Amory Wars. All of their albums correlate with a chapter of the storyline. They're music is pretty awesome; so you should look them up.

Welcome Home is a classic. I think the main reason Coheed and Cambria kind of died off is because they finished covering the main storyline of the Amory Wars. I still recommend listening to it though.
I am glad I got this album because it is another great album from them. It focuses on Sirius (Cyrus) Amory and how he found out about the Keywork and what it actually is. It's kind of short, but the other half (The Afterman: Descension) is coming out in February. It's a double album that follows his story and how that ties into the Amory Wars.

Won't lie, I was burnt off of them for a while because I had to learn Welcome Home on the Xylo for school. Their new album is good, I like that they have kept to their style for the past few years, they haven't gone to far away from how they started.
I'm really enjoying Extraction 1 & 3 and Mothers of Men.
Few Favorites.

I can see why you'd be burnt out. I would too if I had to learn their best known song for school.
I agree with you about how they stick to their sound. I find that refreshing because I see a lot of bands trying to change their sound to appeal to more people while they've just been perfecting theirs.
It's funny how you listed my 2 favorite Extraction songs from the album; saves me from doing it. However, I've been enjoying the title song the most from the album. Aside from Subtraction, I think it's the most toned down song on the album.

The guitars sound different, cleaner, clearer. That's the only difference I heard from now and then, but that could be studio fix.
Wasn't really a fan of the The Aftermath and Subtraction, I don't think his voice is good for mellow songs. When he does the soft thing it reminds me of some of The Used songs.

I wasn't really into Subtraction either. I'm just saying it's the most toned down song on the album. However, I enjoy the The Afterman; that song manages to hook me every time I listen to it. As for his vocal work, I honestly think it works well with mellow songs, but that's my personal opinion. Also, I can't compare to The Used because I haven't listened to them.

For the sake of not making another Coheed thread because you made this Gallowloch, I'm going to post a long ass post. (lol)
So how I got into Coheed and Cambria was because of the song (cliche) Welcome Home on the channel Fuse. And so that year on Christmas my younger brother got me the Album Good Apollo which was my favorite album just because of Welcome Home and a little bit of The Suffering. So now lets fast foward a year and the next single I was eager to listen to was The Running Free. Uh, I didn't like it at first because you know how you listen to a song from a band and that song right there (the first and only song you know of that band) is the only one you like and know. So you don't want to ruin what you think of the band (which was how I saw it so I might the only one who had that mentality) by not listening to anything more that they release due to said reason and that's how I was strongly about Coheed, especially after getting into them because of Welcome Home. I couldn't believe/understand how they went from Welcome Home to the Running Free or In Keeping Secrets (song) to Welcome Home.
I was 16 so I didn't know any better until 2 years later after I made a friend at my old job, who was REALLY into them, that got me back interested to them. My friend explained to me what type of band they were (progressive rock/metal), what the reasons behind the making of the songs, how they went from one album to the next while keeping their sound but changing it at the same time, and he even went to explain how they played (he was a musician that really criticized any band that made a song/album). So short story, he's the reason why I'm into Coheed and Cambria the way I am. He's also the one that got me all their albums, from Second Stage to The Aftermath: Decension. And like that I was into them.
Favorite album has to be The Aftermath (both parts).
Favorite song has to be Gravity's Union.
